Another baby shower Q-Anyone involved in the planning of their shower?

DH and I went to look at places over the weekend so my mom didn't have to do the leg work.

I don't want this to be a surprise and my bridal shower was NOT the way I wanted it so I wanted to be involved in this.

Anyone else involved in the planning of their shower?

Yes I need to know what is going on! My mom is very easy going, and mil wants total control over everything, so I have to mediate!

I am involved a tiny bit...It's at my house, so my sister/mother had to talk to me about it somewhat - but I'm trying to let them run point on the whole thing as I only think it's fair since they are paying for it.
I really only had input on the date and time...

yes, I picked the date and it is at my house, lol. I am doing the invites, decorations and favors and my mom is doing the food and everything else. It works out better this way. It's how I want it and my Dh and I are helping my mom out with the cost of everything which is a huge releif for her. I'm pretty excitied to plan it myself!

I've been helping my mom a lot. I don't have any sisters and my bff is in the process of moving back to LI from out of state, so I don't think she's even had time to think about it (I threw hers with another friend) which is a-ok with me! I didn't want my mom to be overwhelmed, so we've been doing all the planning together...

I did the "leg work" for my mom as well because she lives in South Carolina and even when she lived here, she lived in Queens and didn't drive so she has no idea about LI.

I essentially chose the place, date and menu and she did invites & favors.

I definately am involved with the planning. Since my mom lives OOS, it was eaiser this way. I didn't want a surprise & wanted it in my backyard. So my mom let me pick the date & then we went from there. I picked my invitations & even the cake will be my choice. My mom has done a lot of the legwork in terms of decorations & food but she always asked my opinion. The only thing that is a total surprise for me are the favors. My mom's BFF is doing them & that is the only thing I wanted to be kept a secret.

I was involved in the initial planning stages.

My DH and I picked the date, and I gave my mom and my sister a few choices of locations. I had just planned my sister's baby shower a year earlier, and I knew which places were expensive and which were reasonable in our area.

My sisters did the rest...picking the invites and favors, colors/theme, menu, cake, tracking the rsvp's, planning games/prizes (if any).

I'm much more laid back with this shower than I was with my bridal shower. And I know my sisters will do a great job.

Sometimes I wish I could help with the planning, and other times I'm too tired and grateful that they are doing all the work!

DH and I paid for the shower, and my SIL and I planned it. She paid for the favors.

My mom is having a hard time financially and I didn't want to put pressure on her, and I knew how and where I wanted it so we just went ahead and did it.

MEEE!! my bridal shower was a surprise and was very nice. However, i didnt want this to be a surprise. and i live in PA and the shower is in brooklyn..so i kind of have to know for logisitics.

Im doing my invites though b/c my MIL and Mom are challenged when it comes to stuff like that.

I will be very involved in the planning. 1), I am a control freak, 2) my mom is retired in Seattle and since I will be in New York for the summer it is easier for me to deal with a lot of the details. My mother in law is in Jersey, but I do not trust her to throw me a shower.

I hope after things are booked and such my mother and friends can take over the planning from there, but we shall see.

Behind the scenes I helped my sister with favors, games etc. My mom likes to plan things but ALWAYS falls down on the job so my sister and I planned most of it together and just let my mom think my sister did everything because she didn't think I should be involved.

Yes completely involved. It's at my friend's house and I feel obligated and my mom doesn't drive and my sister is beyond busy I feel bad and have really taken the roll of doing it, which is annoying and getting to me but whatever, just want to get it done!

I will be! I wasn't entirely happy with my bridal shower, so I definitely want to help plan this shower. My mom also lives in PA so I want to help her out. I haven't done much yet, but I will be starting as soon as I wrap up planning my best friend's bridal shower in Boston. It will be in Oct!

I am involved. DH is paying for 1/3rd of it. We booked the place and I ordered the invites. MIL is doing centerpieces and my mom is doing games, favors, prizes and cake.

I was-not because I wanted to be, but because my mother's idea for my shower was to put chips and dip on a table and have people sit outside on an uncovered deck on an afternoon in July.

My very good friend helped plan the shower and I intervened when my mom went too far.

I'm not ungrateful for my mother wanting to throw a shower, but she just has no idea how to host.

I a 100% involved. I looked at places w/ my mom and ultimatley picked the place ad date i wanted. I picked out and ordered the invitations and typed up the invit address labels.

I LOVED my bridal shower and was SOOOOOOO surprised. So i sorta feel, BTDT, so this time i wanted to be involved and im really enjoying it

i was involved because like you, i wasn't happy with my bridal shower. originally my grandma and mom were planning the shower. it ended up being my mom and my MIL planning it. my MIL is very pushy and tries to get her way all of the time. i didn't get to invite as many people as i want, she had a big issue with the theme (puppies.. as you can tell from my screnname, i have 3 dogs and they're my life.. so i wanted them somewhat involved so i figured a puppy theme for a boy was appropriate) she wouldn't buy anything puppy and shot down all of my ideas (besides giving me crap saying it should a surprise and that i was ridiculous) needless to say, everything i had planned, didn't even happen! we didn't even end up doing games after i planned this whole thing (i made bingo cards with different pics of my dogs as the free space, on the invites, i wrote for everyone to bring baby pics of themselves for a game, only 2 people brought pics) it ended up being like a get together. almost like a bbq and it wasn't anything i wanted. i know that sounds selfish but i was really upset. my bridal shower ended up being a better shower! if you can, just make sure you get what you want and put your foot down!

I'm not really involved but it isn't a surprise. My mom wouldn't let me do anything besides get addresses for her.

i was involved in the planning some what. My mom really planned the whole thing, and it was wonderful. my mom and i have very similar tastes so, she really did what she wanted, and she showed me things, and i knew when it was. It was amazing, she did a fabulous job!

I am involved with my shower b/c it will be held in Westchester and my mom, sister and BF's all live in Queens or LI.

My bridal shower was last year and that was a complete surprise, so I figured to make life easier I would help out with this one, both with the planning and some of the cost. I just feel badly burdening my mom and sister with the cost of another shower
