another bf ? sudden drop in milk supply?
all of a sudden I'm noticing my dd is getting really frustrated and crying and pulling off a lot every time she eats. yesterday I thought it was just bad gas or something but I noticed it again today and also noticed I wasn't pumping as much and my boobs don't feel as full as usual. I'm 5 week pp is this something I have to worry about? Could it just be stress b/c I've been extra stressed lately.. I eat oatmeal and drink mothers milk tea almost every day. Anyone have any idea what it could be??

Re: another bf ? sudden drop in milk supply?
Is your DD still sleeping like usual? If so, I am sure she is getting enough milk. The reason you may not feel as full is b/c your supply is regulating itself. In the beginning when you milk first comes in, your body doesn't know what the demand is. Once your body figures it out, your body will regualte the nilk production. As long as your DD is happy and sleeping like usual, then I am sure you are fine.

Re: another bf ? sudden drop in milk supply?
Stress will DEFINITELY cause an immediate decrease in your supply!! Relax..... Also make sure you are eating enough calories and fat to make milk. I wasn't eating enough in the beginning and it definitely affected my supply.
Don't forget to drink your water, especially in this hot weather you need to drink even more. Every time I sit down to nurse I drink at least 1-2 12 oz glasses of water for each session as well as throughout the day.
Keep putting her to the breast, she may also be starting to go through the 6 week growth spurt in which they nurse A LOT to drive up your supply.
Find a nice cushy chair, turn on some soft music or the tv on lightly turn your cell phone off and just sit and nurse.
It takes 12 weeks for your supply to fully develop and stabilize!!! RELAX and just focus on feeding your baby. Also remember the pumping is NOT an effective way to measure your supply. Focus on your baby's cues and wet and poopy diapers!!

Re: another bf ? sudden drop in milk supply?
thanks!! I think its definitely stress b/c I am starting to work again and worrying about having enough milk for her etc. She wasnt sleeping and pooping as often the past 2 days so I know it was something with my supply. after we gave her a bottle of pumped milk she would pass right out. I have to make sure I drink more water too. I was just worried that my milk was drying out or something!!

She could be going through a growth spurt and taking more they she had been. Just keep feeding her, your body will adjust to her needs

I agree with this. 5-6 weeks is a common time for a growth spurt. Keep nursing as much as possible. Your supply will adjust to be what she needs.

Are you drinking tons of water? That decreased my supply.

Definitely drink tons of water. I find that when I don't have less of a supply. Good luck!

In addition to everything else mentioned, I noticed HUGE decrease in supply right before AF appeared. I realize you're only 5wPP, but not everyone gets the benefit of no AF while BFing.

Re: another bf ? sudden drop in milk supply?
In the first 3 months this happened twice with DD... she would nurse for approx. 1 min and pull off screaming.. I stuck through it because DH and Ped told me that she wouldn't calm down at all if she was still hungry and she was gaining weight and having enough pee/poop diapers. Looking back, I think it was definitely growth spurts. At around 3 months we were totally regulated. Good luck.. I know it's frustrating because you worry.
