Another daycare question

I don't know what I would do without you girls!Chat Icon

This is my dilemma...my mom watches my son 3 days a week (Monday, Thursday and Friday) and my SIL watches DS 2 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday). My mom is having a major surgery in mid September and will take a while to recover, which means that I will have to put DS in daycare. My SIL loves to watch my son...she even asks if he can stay over from Tuesday to Wednesday, which lately I've been agreeing to bc I just need SOME time to myself. She wants to continue to watch him on those days (those are her days off from work) but I don't know if that is going to disrupt his schedule...he would be in daycare on Monday, then Tuesday and Wednesday with SIL and then Thursday and Friday again at daycare and then the weekend with us. Is that too much for him? Is it better if I just put him in 5 days a week? I want him to be comfortable and not feel like he is all over the place.

Hi Sylvia!
Can you start w/ 3x a week then go to 5x if you see it being an issue for him? My son goes 3x a week (Mon,Tues & Fri). Mon mornings are sometimes hard at drop-off but he gets over it quickly. I would just try to keep him on the same eating & nap schedule and he should be fine.

I agree with Stacey that I think it would be ok, but care may be hard to fine.

Before I lost my job, we were oging to put DS in daycare T-Th, which I don't think is THAT much different.

Syl - I have Nick in a family day care 2 days a week and he's doing GREAT. He's so much more social now and really moving along with his milestones.

I think at this age, it's easier to do a mixed week. I was nervous about it when he was only a few months old, so I opted to hold off on mixing the daycare.

How old is your DC?

My DS was in a home daycare facility from 6 weeks to 14 mos. Then he went to a center (like tutor time). I don't know if its the age he was at, or the program - but he is doing wonderful full time in the center. He thrives on the routine.

My point is- he may do better with the routine.

Re: Another daycare question

Eddie is with my mom MWThurs and in daycare Tues and Fri.

He used to be M with my mom
Tues - Daycare
Weds - with my SIL
Thurs - wiht my grandma
Fri - daycare again

It didnt screw him up at all, he LOVED seeing everyone and looked forward to his days in daycare to play with his friends and everyone who watched him looked forward to their special day with him. We let daycare dictate his schedule since they have 10 other kids to deal with and everyone just stuck with that as far as feeding, naps, etc. So the structure of his day is the same everyday, just the people are different.

Re: Another daycare question

The daycare that I am placing my DS in does offer 5, 4 and 3 day programs, its just that they want the children to be there for a full day. I will sign him up for 3 days to start with and then we'll see how he does from there on. I will make sure that my SIL sticks with the daycare program and we should be good! Thank you sooo much for your advice and comments! If for whatever reason it doesn't work out, I can put him in for 5 days.

Thanks again!
