IS that the ride a little 4 year old died on last year? We were there the week before that little boy died, and my DH, brother and 5 year old nephew rode it and came out sick! I know there ar etons of warning posted all over, which is why I didn't even attempt to go in it, but seriously, how many deaths do we need to realize something is not right??

The 4 year old did not belong on the ride. it was also just a freak accident. The kid had heart problems and didn't know it, and there are plenty fo warnings about heart problems. It's basically a glorified gravitron. If that kind of motion makes you sick, don't go on the ride. I've been on it many times. The only time I got sick was when I went on it twice in a row, which was just a stupid idea to begin with.

I don't think it's a dangerous ride. People died from the kiddie train at adventureland. Freak accidents happen, and as you said, there are more than enough warnings.

ETAL I just read the story. Some of the headlines are really misleading saying she died ON the ride, when really she died a few days later and it said she has high blood pressure and heart problems, AND they ascertained that the little boy died of a rare heart defect, NOT because of the ride.

It's sad and tragic, but I don't think it's a reason to close down the ride, although I do disagree with disney in that they refused to raise the height requirement. I really don't think 4 year olds belong on the ride.

Re: Another Death in Disney...

I ran off this ride just before the seatbelt bars lowered on me because I was so paranoid about it. My husband stayed on and he loves rides, but said he would never go on it again. When he came off he was some weird shade of green.

It's not a roller coaster, it spins you around while you sit in this capsule thing and makes you feel like you are being launched into space.

I agree - it was the worst ride I've EVER been on (worst meaning I just got SO sick from it)

Neither my husband nor myself have EVER gotten sick on any type of ride in our lives. We've gone on the craziest coasters out there, we love rides, etc.
But when we went on this particular ride, I seriously wasn't sure I was going to make it through it -- I slightly panicked halfway through (not sure if I got claustrophobic or what) and BOTH of us were so ill after getting off, it pretty much ruined the day for us - it threw our equilibrium off and I just couldn't shake the dizziness

And I FIRMLY believe that small children should NOT be allowed on this ride whatsoever! It's just way too intense IMO

I was TOTALLY sick from it too! Maybe they should consider pulling the ride out at this point. Also, in regard to the 4 yr old not going on the ride, I think its also disneys responsibility that he should never have been on that ride at 4. The parents are definitely at fault but so is disney.

I am still glad I went on it... and didn't regret it one bit.

why is it disneys fault? Bc they are allowing 4 yr olds get onto rides that grown adults are clearly saying they are getting sick on. They hire young kids to put people on rides. In fact last yr we went to disney with my handicapped sister in which they started the ride while she was transporting from a wheelchair to a seat. We all got severely hurt. When you put people on rides you have to ensure their safety or you have to close shop.

I wish I could turn back time so I would NEVER have gone on that ride. I totally panicked inside of it, but kept it together for the sake of my two nephews who were in it with me.

I have never had claustrophobia in my life, and now, as a result of Mission Space, I have had panic attacks in various places. I can no longer go on elevators unless absolutely necessary, I got very tense at a crowded concert, and I've even panicked in heavy traffic. The worst experience had to be my c-section though--couldn't feel my legs (of course) and freaked the he!! out. Oh wow, I totally sound like a basket case!!

I'm not surprised others have been so affected and I feel terrible for those who have died as well as their families!

Re: Another Death in Disney...

According to the story, 8.6 million people had ridden the ride before the incident with the 4 year old and only 131 required medical attention. I don't see that as justification for pulling the ride.

I think Disney probably should make the height requirement higher so no kids who are tall for their age and still young can go on it, BUT there are plenty of warnings, and there are even videos of what the ride is, so the parents should use their discretion. I would never bring a child under 7 onto that ride, it's just very intense.

It DOES have a claustrophobc effect. The first time I went on the ride as soon as the screens came down, people started banging on the doors in another car and they had to go through a whole procedure to get though security features and get people out, and as time went on (it IS hard with that thing over your face for..how long did we wait..10 minutes) more and more people were banding to get out. but we were on the ride with two 7-8 year olds who were telling us it was great and we didn't want to chicken out anyway...so we did the ride and it was awesome. it's like the gravitron, but there's a VR screen in front of you and it's coordinated so you actually feel like you're launching into space and you feel some effects of zero gravity. And there are seriously at least a dozen very strong warnings on the way into the ride.

ETA: If you folow the directions and look forward and blah blah, it's much less likely you'll get sick. The people who get off it and throw up are hte people who look side to side, close their eyes, etc.

You can't go by age. You can only go by height. These rides are designed for people a certain height.

Age is not a factor. If the kid at disney let the 4 year old on even though he was too short... then you can blame disney.

And there are warnings ALL over the place for this ride. The people that work for Disney tell you MANY times about the warnings. You have plenty of chances to not go on the ride.

I think a lot of people don't take the warnings seriously because these same warnings are unfortunately found on much less intense rides.

I agree. AND the ride was not the COD in EITHER of these cases. People love to believe disney is at fault for this type of stuff and it is simply not true.
