Another dreaded feeding question

My dd has been ravenous with her formula lately...she will drink 40 oz a day if I let her Chat Icon

her current intake is 30-32 oz a day, I know my ped said that was on the high end

here is her schedule

7am - 7oz bottle

10am - cereal or 3 mini pancakes or waffles, 1 container of stage 2 fruit

6 oz bottle

1pm - yobaby or stage 2 fruit and 1 container of stage 2 veggies

6 oz bottle

4pm - stage 2 fruits and veggies

6oz bottle

Dinner time - usually a taste of whatever we are having

7pm - 7 oz bottle

During the day, I also give her some snacks such as cheese crumbles, cheerios or mini goldfish, apples

ANy suggestions on how I can reduce her formula intake, any other table food that may be good to try

Re: Another dreaded feeding question

Know what? I was wondering the same thing - to me, it seems that the more real food I give him, the more formula he is also taking in - sometimes he will su ck down two full bottles - one after the other...

Do you think maybe they are thirsty and not needing formula????

ETA - she eats a lot more than Cailen, but he also doesn't really have teeth yet....

yeah, she might be thirsty, I told MIL to try to offer water or watered down juice in a sippy cup and see how that goes

personally, I do not want to give her water or juice in a bottle so if she is thirsty, she will have to drink it out of the sippy Chat Icon

Re: Another dreaded feeding question

How about trying water in a sippy cup instead of one of the afternoon bottles?

I agree - I am encouraging the sippy more...

I don't know - I feel Cailen has been wanting the bottle a lot more lately - I think it may be a comfort thing more than anything else - maybe they miss it?

So you think reducing her intake of formula by 6oz cold turkey would be okay?

I may have my MIL try to offer her water at 1pm instead of formula (maybe she can give her more table food at this feeding) and see what happens

thanks

Re: Another dreaded feeding question

Maybe she's just a good hungry kidChat Icon she might be going through a spurt and their little bodies know when they're full.

Is she active? crawling? Walking? Rolling? Shes burning those calories and needs more fuel.
A healthy diet is good for her, she needs it, she won't get fat. Next week she might go on a food strike :)

I say keep giving her formula, if she wants it. My PED said 32-40ozs per day is fine.

ETA: Do you give her water yet? She can def have water in between her meals nowChat Icon

Re: Another dreaded feeding question

I did lessen the ounces in each bottle that I was giving Jack.

He used to get 6. Then 5 1/2. Then 5. Now, he's on 4 1/2. He still gets the same number of bottles - just overral less ounces.

I think it would be okay. I know my ped said Ryan should be getting 18-24 oz of formula per day when he was Mikayla's age.

Re: Another dreaded feeding question

My dd is a couple days older then your Mikayla and right around the same weight,

I cut back from 5 bottles to 4 right around the time we started feeding her three meals a day instead of two. Here is her schedule:

all bottles are between 6-7 ounces

7am bottle
8 am oatmeal and stage 2 fruit
11:30 bottle
1:30 Pastina and stage 2 vegie
3:30 bottle
6:00 stage two dinner 1/2 stage two fruit
7:30 bottle

she also eats (a lot) of cherios, and puffs, cut grapes, gerber crackers through out the day.
water is always available too.

It took just a few days to adjust to the loss of the bottle. I go to the ped tommorrow so I guess I will get better feedback if I am feeding her correctly:)
