another gem of a 'mom moment': infant care
oh boy... she is SO not remembering pregnancy or taking care of an infant.....
Mom: assemble the stuff at my house AFTER the baby comes. I don't want clutter beforehand.
Me: everything will be done BEFORE Scone arrives, becuase once he's home, we're sleep-deprived and too busy.
Mom: why? taking care of an infant is no problem. All they do is sleep anyway
Me: Uhhh, the first month of life will be consumed with feeding, changing diapers, and dreaming of an opportunity to shower, cook, and sleep.....
Mom: who said that? It's EASY! Not too much to do.
Me: no offense mom, but you haven't had a kid in 36 years, and the moms on the parenting board, my SIL, my IL's, AND my friends with toddlers ALL warned me the first month or 2 is super-rough.
Mom: you have to get off of that LIFamilies. it's obviously filled with hysterical moms (me )
Me: what about my friends and DH's family agreeing with them?
Mom: well, your friends are wierd. I don't know about them.
Me: and his family??! (no reply) Me: Mark my words once Scone comes, mom. you'll see.... Just be grateful I'm taking care of him for the first 2 months, not you.
Keep in mind, this is the woman who will be taking care of Scone once I return to work....
TOTALLY delusional.

Is your mom like super OLD school ???
My abuela (Spanish grandmother) says teh same thing....but this is comign from a woman who raised 4 kids had a buisiness, cooked 3 full meals a day, tended a garden and sooo much more in Spain. SO having 1 baby to her is NO big deal!!!

Add me to the list of hysterical LIF Moms because the first month after DS was born was VERY hard. Now everyone tells me having two will be "a piece of cake". How is that possible??

Re: another gem of a 'mom moment': infant care
nah..... she IS old-school, but not THAT productive! She had me and that was IT.... she claimed I was too much to handle (I was SUCH a good kid, you have no idea.....) Mom was a stereotypical 'kept woman' SAHM with only 1 kid and most things done for her.... not like the busy lives of the SAHM's of today by a LONG SHOT.
I think she just completely forgot... call it maternal amnesia. she also told me other gems like 'I had no symptoms at all while I was pregnant'.
Really.... NONE you say. so you went from a size 2 to gain 35 lbs and you had not one ache, pain, digestive issue... either she's BIONIC, or she forgot.
Her hallmark personality trait is severe subborness, so if she didn't remember, she'd just argue what she thinks is the truth until we're all beaten into submission.
sad thing is, she'll forget that charming conversation last night, and once Scone is here, she'll claim I made it all up and she never said it would be easy
welcome to my world!

OMG that is my mom to a T! Stopped after she had me, tells me she doesn't remember anything from the first 3 years because she's still "blocking it out".
She ended up being a good mom, and is a good grandma though.

Re: another gem of a 'mom moment': infant care
yeah, I had that response from mom when I had my severe aversions...
ALSO, another old-school mom issue:
She whenever I discuss breastfeeding or the pump.... becuase back in the day, it was all formula.
she actually told me that the reason why infant care may be difficult is becuase we INSIST to BF (as if it's some game or something). we should just give formula.

Re: another gem of a 'mom moment': infant care
See I am with your Mom. It wasn't hard for me either. I actually had soo much time on my hands. All he did was eat, sleep, poop. I still had time to shower everyday, cook everyday, and even go out shopping. I was very lucky and positive it won't happen again like that for me
But it is possible. Praying it is the same way for you

I really agree. I think you may be shocked at the time you have on your hands after your DC is born.
We moved 3 weeks after Christopher was born, for those 3 weeks he lived in the Bjorn except nighttime and when he was eating.

Too Funny
You should leave lil Scone with your mom for just a night- I'm sure her tune will change!
