another hair coloring question
Later on this month, I'm getting my hair colored and having highlights put in.
My natural color is medium brown, but I have been coloring it for years, and it has a lot of auburn, reds in it. I want to have it colored back to just brown and have blonde highlights put in.
I remember awhile back at a different salon the guy there told me that because i had red in my hair, that trying to put blonde highlights in could make my hair fall out. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this accurate?

Re: another hair coloring question
I'm no expert, but I'll make a guess. Red is tough color. You have to strip then color. Blonde would definitely be a strip of color then possible color added to get the right shade after having red. It might basically be too much for your hair to handle.
Anyone else? I could be wrong.

Re: another hair coloring question
Are the reds in your hair natural or do you mean you have been coloring it a red color?
I have medium dark brown hair but I have a lot of red highlights. thats why i'm asking.
Highligting especially with bleach is very damaging. that might be why they told you that.
but it depends on the condition of your hair too. my mom dyes and highlihgts her hair all the time and it's a little dry but not damaged and we have very red highlights in our hair

the red is all from coloring. I never had highlights done.

Re: another hair coloring question
It just might take longer to bring the blonde up, but your hair shouldn't fall out.

I have dark brown hair and whenever i put red in, it never looked right...I've been putting caramel highlights in my hair and it looks great...just the right contrast!
