another inground sprinkler question - how big of a job is it?
To install new sprinklers, how big of a job is it on your lawn? Is it a complete mess with uprooting grass? Does it take a while for the lawn to recover?
I want to get a new system but I can't ruin our lawn - we're having a big party on it soon

They use this machine to run the pipes under the lawn, so it didn't rip up the yard at all. I think it took them one day, maybe a day and a half.

Like Cathy, they replaced our sprinkler system in the front yard (.5 acre) in a day and a half. The first day was mostly for finding the old system and planning out the new system. The 2nd day was using the machine and laying the new system.
It's hard for me to say what kind of "damage" they did to the lawn because we did it while our front yard was torn up. From what I could tell with the equipment, the damage wouldn't be too significant, but I would do it now so that you could put seed down in the areas that do receive some damage. (Now is the time to seed if you're going to do it.)
It also depends on what type of equipment they use. In our case, they used a machine that digs a trench, but there's also a machine that puts a slit in the lawn and pushes the pipe into the slit which means less damage to your lawn. You'd have to ask how they intend to replace your system.

They did my house in 6 hours. They left no holes at all and did a great job.
FM me and I will give you the persons number that did them. I believe I got 6 zones and I had to get the back flow done also.
He is one of our friends that does it on the side of his regular job, but he has the machine to run the lines and everything else he needs.

They either tunnel it under ground, or they just dig trenches for where the piping will go, flap the grass over, and then flap it back over when done. Shouldn't entirely ruin your lawn if they are neat.

My backyard still doesn't look the same- they did it last summer. We didn't have sod though... maybe that makes a difference?
