Another post about hemangiomas - amazing new treatment
I'm a little obsessed with hemangiomas because my daughter had 3 (one superficial one on her forehead, one superficial one on her neck and one cavernous one on her abdomen).
The second someone said something cruel about her appearance (some people thought I hit her in the face at 6 weeks, someone asked if she got burned by a cigarette and some other people just would say "What IS that thing on her face? I would literally want to rip their heads off - but I became obsessed with learning everything I could about them.
So anyway there is new research showing that beta blockers can be prescribed and have AMAZING results on moderate to severe hemangiomas. Friends of mine from another site have children with bright red hemangiomas that cover 1/3 to 1/2 of their child's faces and after a month on beta blockers, the color and size of the hemangioma is decreased significantly. I dont feel comfortable posting before and after photos of other people's children - but the results are really miraculous. My friend said it changed her daughter's life (her daughter couldnt breathe on her own because the hemangioma was growing on her airway - but not anymore!!!!
I posted awhile back a thread that gave some info about hemangiomas and treatment options (lasers, surgery, steroids, etc) - but I just wanted to post this to pass along some info.
Hopefully no one will ever need this info - but I've learned so much from this wonderful board. Maybe this will help someone down the road.

Thanks for the info, my friends daughter had a few that went away on their own.
I was always surprised by the amt of people that had no idea what a hemangioma was, to ask about it in such a hurtful way is unnecessary ...

My cousin had a terrible one on her face, it covered half of her face, it did go away, but it took years, and you can tell there is permanant damage. No discoloring, but just a difference between the two sides of her face. She is a beautiful woman, but I am so happy they have figured out something to help these children, it really can have serious health effects sometimes.
