Another Potty Training Success...

Seems like so many of us now have potty trained kids.Chat Icon Davey turns 3 tomorrow so last week I decided it was time! He has used the potty since he was 18 months but it was never consistent. I have always had him in pullups and I guess we were both lazy about it. Well last week I kept him in underwear and after 3 days of accidents he finally got it!!! I think I could have trained him much earlier if I had just put him in the underwear right away. With the underwear on I was constantly thinking about it so even when we went out I would remember and take him straight to the nearest bathroom. Every store we went to I would take him to the bathroom. I think in the past with the pullups I just would be lazy about teaching him, and he didn't really get it because it was like he was wearing a diaper. I read Barb's comments about quitting diapers/pullups cold turkey and it definitely worked. He has even been dry the last 3 nights so he is now sleeping in underwear. We still need to work on # 2 as he has had a couple of accidents, but I think in a week or 2 it won't be a problem. Although I am not always on I want to thank everyone for there potty training advice, especially Barb!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Congrats.

I agree w/going cold turkey on the diapers/pull ups. I had the same success. Although I'm still nervous w/naps & night time.

Re: Another Potty Training Success...

COngratulations!!!! What an awesome accomplishment, Enjoy! I now have 2 PT'd and I have to agree about the pullups as well. My DD is newly PTd and has had a few accidents with peeing. My Mom said I should put a pullup on her and I tried to explain how it's not underwear to the kids at all, like the commercials try to make it seem - maybe its easier as the parent if you are trying them out with PT. Its not that simple to go cold turkey with a kid peeing everywhere and taking a diaper on and off endlessly is exhausting in itself. I can see if someone wants to use it in that respect, Ive used them that way myself. But as far as the kids and what works for it to click with them, I dont think the pullups work, they just view it as a diaper. Ive never had my kids not want to wet a pullup.

Congrats to your Big Boy!!
