Another question about stopping BCP............
So I've heard conflicting arguments about when is best to stop the BCP. Some say stop whenever, some say stop after you finish the pack. At what point did you stop the pill? Or when did your dr. tell you to stop? Do I go through the pack im on now and I'll be done once I get AF? Or do I just stop now in the middle of the pack cause it doesnt make a difference?? Im so confused....and I dont want to wait till Thurs to get the answer from my gyno. (im impatient...lol)

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
i stopped one week into the pack i knew i wasnt going to start another one so i figured "whats the point?" BUT, it could effect the cycle stopping in the middle; im not really sure
i just figured, why am i still taking them when i'm going to stop anyway

That's exactly how I feel. I dont want to continue taking them when I know that im just going to stop. But then I dont want to mess up my body even more by stopping in the middle. (if thats even what happens!)

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
so I just found this on the Mayo Clinics website. It was in a section with FAQ aboout the BCP.....
*If you've been taking birth control pills for many years and decide to stop, can you stop at any time or should you finish your current pill packet?*
In terms of your overall health, it makes little difference when you stop taking the pill. When you finally do stop the pill, you can expect some bleeding, which may change the rhythm of your menstrual cycle. But you can stop at any time.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
i was on nuvaring, so at the end of the cycle (3 weeks) i took it out to get my period and just never put a new one in. i got AF right away, two days later, as per usual, and my next cycle was 25 days long. this is my second cycle off BCP.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
The end of the pack is definately best. If you stop in the middle you will get withdrawal bleeding & it could throw your cycles off even more. That's what my doctor told me when I considered stopping the pill.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
i went off at the end of the pack. it just seemed easier to me and i was hoping my cycles would stay regular. i didn't want to deal with breakthrough bleeding either. but i really don't think it matters too much.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
I still have the rest of this week and next week till im in my placebo pills. So I guess thats not too long to wait. Im just anxious to stop, which im sure you all can understand. It does make sense though to wait until the end of the pack.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
I think it may depend on what kind of bcp you are on.
I was told by my doctor that i could stop whenever i was ready to start trying (which will be next spring - woohoo).
Wish me luck... i've got pcos. I'm never regular unless i stay on bcp.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
Just finish the pack up as to stay on schedule.
I got pregnant two weeks after I finished the pack and got my BFP less than a month after.

Re: Another question about stopping BCP............
My gyno told me to finish up the pack I was taking and then don't restart a new one after AF came. I think this would be a better idea for ya, rather than stopping mid-pack and not knowing when AF is going to come. This way, if will give you a little more sanity when trying to anticipate when you are going to OV. HTH! GL!
