Another room sharing question - those with 3 or more DC

Do your children share rooms or have their own?

If they had to share when new DC came, how did they adjust and did you feel bad for the older child?

I know, when the time comes, Colin shouldn't care, but I wonder if Ryan would be upset that he has to give up having his private room - not that he does anything but sleep in there.

Right now we have 3 bedrooms upstairs. Our MBR is quite large and could be divided to make a regular size child's room and still a good size MBR (it's about 275 sq ft). I barely use my BR too but kind of like having it. I haven't really decorated it the way I want since it may be divided in time.

So, if you were me, would you have 2 boys (19 months apart) share a BR if/when you have a 3rd child, or divide MBR and give each child their own room?

Diana, I'm going to kill you. I'm not even pregnant and like you, I'm stressing over bedroom arrangements for an imaginary 3rd child! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Another room sharing question - those with 3 or more DC

We have 4 bed rooms and I'm still thinking of having kids share a room if we decide to have a 3rd.

No reason other than having a guest room for the frequent visitors.

I don't think it's a big deal to share a room as a kid. As they get older, then I can see it being a little more of a question, but even then it's no biggie to me.

We have our 3rd on the way Chat Icon

My house is a 4 BR, but my disabled brother lives with us...

We have an unfinished office space on the main level of my house ( we didnt have the builder finish it because we werent sure what our intentions were and they wanted mega $ to do it)
We are now going to be finishing that office and converting it into a room for my brother and the 3 kids will be upstairs w/ us...

We have a Chat Icon , a Chat Icon and next is still Chat Icon

"Maybe" had my first 2 been same gender we would have opted for a shared room, but since they are not, we are taking this route ( As it is my kids don;t sleep well, so rooming them together would surely be a disaster in the makiing Chat Icon )

If I were in your shoes ( and your kids are decent sleepers) I'd let them share a room...If it doesnt work, you could always change your mind down the line Chat Icon

We have a small 3 bd ranch. My DD has her own room and the boys (4,2) share. My older DS is a sound sleeper and hasn't even shown any preference either way to sharing. In a few years we will probably still be in this house and will do bunk beds. I asked my older DS if we moved would he rather share a room and have a playroom or have his own bedroom and no playroom. He wanted to share. Maybe he'll feel different when he gets older.

Depending on sex of #3 I would either put both boys together and 1 girl by herself or if they were 3 boys, I would give up my master bedroom. Put all 3 boys in there (I like PBK setup for the 3 boys room). Close the door and hope to get some sleep far far away from them. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We were in the same situation, except with two girls...and we just added a boy to the mix three weeks ago.

We have a three bedroom house (with a finished attic). In June (4-5 mos before my due date), I moved the girls into one room. Let me tell you, they LOVED it from day one and still do. The same night I did that was also DD#2's first night in a bed...NO problems. They wake up a little bit earlier now, but they play together in their room instead of harassing us.

If we were to have had a third girl, I imagined we would have ultimately given DD#1 her own room, but who knows...I would have left it up to them to decide I guess.

Since we had the opposite gender the situation works great for now...until they start complaining years from now that the Prince gets his own room and they don't. Chat Icon

My DH also wants to convert the attic into two bedrooms, that way we can change the girls' current room into an office or something...

I don't think I'd divide up the MBR if I were you. Plenty of kids shared rooms and lived to tell the tale. Chat Icon

This is DH's concern with a 3rd boy (not having one but the BR situation Chat Icon ) He thinks either someone would feel left out, or get pi zzed they don't have their own room. While I think DH would want Ryan to have his own room as the oldest, but if I had 3 boys and 2 bedrooms to share Ryan and Colin will be closer in age (unless I'm about 12wks PG already and don't know it Chat Icon ) and obviously they'll have their sleeping patterns established and it will be easier for them to share then Colin and a newborn.

Well neither of their rooms is big enough to be a master - so if we had 3 boys I guess I could give them the master and DH & I could each take a bedroom - that would take care of birth control Chat Icon

I would let the oldest have his own room, and the 2 little ones share.

I would def. let the two boys share. They are so close in age that it will be fun for them, not something that they dislike. My three nephews are 7 and 5 and they share a room and love it.
