Another sleepless night...UPDATE~PLEASE HELP!!!

UPDATE-

Since the rash had spread I called the DR (even though I know its normal in PUPPS) to make sure she knew...and to make sure if I should even continue taking the steroids...of course the receptionist told me to come in...

I heard the DR reading through my file at the door...for a few min before walking in... and as soon as she did I started to cry.. explaining my STILL sleepless nights... the rash spreading.. my constant taking med (between the steroids, benadryl, tylenol PM and all the over the counter creams.. blah blah blah)

She stopped me mid sentence and said...Relax...unfortunately theres NOTHING I can really do for you.. the only way to get rid of this is to give birth... she then procedded to suggest having an amnio done next week (36 weeks) and if it says the baby is good to go (lungs and size are good) induce me...(still @ 36 weeks..)

She uped the miligrams on my steroids (Im begining to think they are partly for the babys development..however she says the are for me)

I started crying more after this..I began to say how I thought amnios were dangerous, and she says they are early in pregnancy because they can make you go into labor...but this late in pregnancy (36+weeks) they wouldnt stop labor anyway...

She feels judging by my last sonogram..and all my tests..that baby is "fully cooked" however needs that medical proof before inducing me..

I then went on to say...well what if we wait until 38 weeks...If I was going to have a c-section (if my placenta didnt move) this is when we were gonna do it... SKIP the aminio..do another sono..and induce at 38 weeks... She didnt say no..but her response was "Why put yourself through those extra 2 weeks..if your baby is ready now???

I dont know what to do.... This day has been so emotional for me... its so hard to think straight when Im so itchy and sleepy and miserable... These are just the begining stages to this rash...as time passes on things are gonna get worse...so im not totally against being induced...but I dont know...

I go back on Monday with my decsion...and I guess we'll take it from there..

As I was leaving she could see the confusion in my face...and she said...Please relax... I wouldnt suggest anything that was dangerous for you or the baby...and if the test show he wasnt ready...then Im not gonna take him... Personally... I just had my daughter...and if this was me in your situation...I would take the test...

Please give me your input!

------------------------------------------------

I even tried Benadryl before I went to bed hoping it would help me sleep past the itchies...no such luckChat Icon

The rash is now on my arms and thighs... and the itchiness is so intense... I dont think these steroids are doing anything...

I just dont understand how its clearing up on my belly...and spreading in other places???

I know its normal to the get the rash on your arms n legs in PUPPS...but i cant figure out why it would come after the rash on my belly...

Of course being the freak that I am..Im compelled to call the Dr. I know there is nothing more he can do for me, and the only way to get rid of the insane itching is to give birth... and thats not for like another 5 weeks...

Re: Another sleepless night...

I know how you feel...it's definitely unexplainable how this rash spreads to other parts of the body after you see some clearing on the belly.

Are you still using that soap?

I also wanted to tell you that I used an Aveeno cream in combination with the soap. I don't know the exact name of the Aveeno cream, but it does contain some calamine...that also helped with some of the itchies.

Hang in there!!! I know it's hard and easy for me to say...but, you're almost through this!!!!!

Re: Another sleepless night...

When you use the soap, don't use a washcloth...just rub the soap directly onto the skin and let it sit for a minute or two before washing it off...oh, and don't take hot showers or even warm ones...try taking a cool shower. I found that warm water irritated my skin even more.

Sorry Chat Icon
I had a rough night last night too.
Hang in there.
You could probably take 2 Benadryl before bed. Of course double check with your doc but thats not over the normal adult dose.

I would take the test. Pregnangcy doesnt get any easier at 36+ weeks. The last few weeks you pretty much just wait for the baby to come out. So why not know when he is going to come. You have waited all this time, and there are sleepness nights ahead. If you are uncomfortable, why put yourself through it. Like the dr said- she isnt going to do anything to harm you and/or the baby.

If the baby is ready to go then I would say go ahead with the induction but be prepared that it could end in a c-section because your body may not be ready to dilate, efface and all that good stuff.

Not sleeping and being upset and stressed isn't good for you or the baby and if its only going to get worse I can't imagine how hard it's going to be for you.

Maybe just look at it this way, one step at a time. Go ahead with the amnio then take it from there. I know lots of people who had amnio's late in the pregnancy and were fine for the same reason as you to see if the baby was ready to go or needed a steroid shot to get the lungs going.

See I know amnios gave info on genetics and all that stuff...however I was unsure how it could tell if the lungs were developed...

Like I said she uped my miligrams of the steroids... for what I feel is to get the lungs developing more rapidly...

I will be on an IV of steroids during labor...(no matter what) because you can just stop them...

I just cant help but feel... your are pregnant for 40 weeks for a reason...

Although I know a c-section is harder recovery and so forth...im not really to freaked out by it..In the begining I was told there was a good possibility I would have to have a c-section because of my placenta (luckily it moved) but I guess...I set myself up for that being an option from day 1...

Re: Another sleepless night...UPDATE~PLEASE HELP!!!

Im so sorry for you! I remember those sleepless nights. I didnt have PUPPS, but I had severe migraines. I know exactly what you mean about taking all the medications. Iwas on Fiorinol (up to 10 a day) and then tylenol pm every night, and zofran to cut down the vomiting (al;though i still did every day). I was so worried about the baby, but my doctor said the same thing -- relax. Easier said then done, right? I was given the exact same choice as you. Do thr lung test and induce at 36 weeks or wait & induce at 38 weeks. Well, Cole made the decision for me - my water broke at 35 weeks. He was perfectly fine, thank God. He was in the less than 5th percentile for the first 3 months, but now at 7 months hes in the 75th percentile. And all of my symptoms were totally gone withion hours of delivery.

the good news is that I felt so great after delivery and those newborn feedings were a breeze compared to months of insomnia. I found the transition into mommyhood a piece of cake.

hang in there!

Re: Another sleepless night...UPDATE~PLEASE HELP!!!

I read this post and also the one on the parenting board, and I just feel so bad for you. The decisions you are faced with, especially with the way you are feeling, just must be so hard. I know that you'll make the right decision either way. For some people a 36 week baby will be perfectly ready, for others there could be complications. I think you should do the test to figure out more of what's going on. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Another sleepless night...UPDATE~PLEASE HELP!!!

After not sleeping last night.. Ive decdied to be induced NO MATTER WHAT....I fear so much that my body is just gonna give out on me from being so exhausted...

Now I just have to narrow my decision down to doing the amnio and going at 36/37 weeks...

or waiting it out til 38....

Im gonna try to make a tentative decision this weekend...and discuss things further with the DR on Monday...

So keep it coming girls... I need all the support I can get!Chat Icon
