Another sperm analysis result - and the next steps for me
Well DH reluctantly went for his analysis. We got results today; the doctor said some of the numbers were borderline, but not enough to prompt him to make DH go to a urologist just yet. For example, his concentration is 16 million when it should be 20 million. Motility is 45% when they want it to be minimum 50%. Volume is supposively good. I am concerned, but the dr seems to be focused on the next steps for me before they go back to him.
Anyway, I have to get an HSG to see if my tubes are clogged and am freaking out! I heard it is painful. Has anyone had this done? Should we be concerned about the semen results?

everyone that I know that had that got preggo rght after, they say you are more fertile....not sure if its true but its not that bad, it may just be worth it...how long have you been trying...

that's good to hear. I've been trying almost 6 months, but am 35, so that is considered the time to start testing.

I heard to take 3 advils 1 hour before the tets, but ask the doctors office first. Hope this helps.

Most people say that after an HSG (so long as the tubes are open) the chances of a BFP increase b/c the dye they use tends to clean things out.
As for the SA, IMHO, I would be concerned. My DH had less than 50% motility (I think it was 41%), and I was told not to woryy b/c his concentration was 72 million. The RE said the sheer amount would compensate for low motility. Since your DH has both low motility and low concentration I would be concerned.

I agree...you should have another SA (to confirm numbers) and then speak to RE about AI, IUI & IVF....

While I am in panic mode after reading this, I did make a note that the dr told me that DH's volume & shape were good. Also, he said that the numbers for the other things were not a huge issue since many have gotten pg on lower numbers. I'm still panicking, but regardless, I have to get tested first.

I just had an HSG last week, it was not a pleasant experience and was very uncomfortable. I would equate it to terrible cramping. The good news was it only hurt when they were injecting the solution/dye, so I was only REALLY uncomfortable for about a few (2-3) minutes. Good luck!

I had a HSG test last year. Just take 3 advils an hr. before the test and you should be fine.
Regarding the SA, I would have your husband go for another SA.
