Another Wedding Album Question

For those of you who have already done your albums (or if you haven't but have begun the "wondeful" process of selecting pics) what % of your pics would you say were of the reception?

I am getting a 100 page digital album and I'm having so much trouble deciding what is most important. I want some traditional family shots and BP and getting ready etc. etc , but I really like a lot of the Photojournalistic pics that "capture the moment". A lot of albums I have seen don't seem to focus too much on the reception or BP pics.

Any thoughts???

I only get 36 images, so it's tough for me.

I first seperated all of the photos into categories, RH, Vanderbuilt pics, Family pics, etc.

Once I picked out the best pictures from those categories, then I tried to chop it down more. Some pictures had more people dancing in them, so I chose that one instead of me with some girls dancing ya know? I haven't put in my pictures yet, b/c I still have to decide on a few, but that's how I am doing it.

I think in the end I am going to pick more family photos than anything else. I think having a picture or two of the reception is fine. WE didn't do anything fancy, so it's not like I need a picture of an ice sculpture that I paid $1,000's for ya know? If you had stuff like that , that you spent time and money on, I would put those in as well. Other than that, I am going to put in mostly family posed pictures and few RH pics. I just don't have the room for all of the pictures I want.

I actually ended up doing alot more artsy ones. I mean I got ones from every moment and then threw in a few traditional. Honestly, I would just pic which ones you like the best.

pick the ones you like the best!!! most of my album i think is not traditional photos. i think i put a good mix of both. if youd like to see our layout let me know ill post pics. i had a few changes made im waiting for the revised one! i cant wait! hope to have it soon!

Meggo - I would love to see some layout ideas if you are willing to share. I could use any help I can get - I seriously don't have a creative bone in my body

The only receptions pics we used were

us entering the room
2 of our first dance
1 father daughter dance
1 monther son dance
4 cake cutting
6 dancing shots

So it was 14/90 pictures were of the reception

im sorry DH deleted the layouts i had saved on the computer.. when i get the new ones ill post them...

ours went by # of photos... we had 140 photos in our book. we ended up paying to have an extra 10.. so we have 150 its a digital album... i think a majority of them were from the reception.

we do have pics from the processional and recessional... bcause those were some of the best pics i only had 4 sets of people so it wasnt that bad.. but i love the ones of dh and bil walking his grandma down the asile and things like that.. but then i didnt have them coming into the reception.

About 1/3 were action/reception pics. We hit the high points - the BP/parent/our entrances, the Hora, DH on stage playing guitar w/the band (while I cheer like a groupie in the background ), one pic each of us with our best friends, the parent dances, and cake cutting.

im not really sure how many pictures go into my album - probably not a lot

i just gave my photog a bunch that i liked and told her do what you want with it

reception pics i wanted to put in were first dance, parent dances, cake cutting....then a bunch of fun dancing shots

That's what I wanted to do! DH and I sat down and separated the pics into 2 groups - ones we definitley liked and ones that we definitely didnt care for (not to mention each shot had about 5 different angles - seriously we had over 2000 proofs to organize ).

I would have much rathered handing over the pics to the photog and saying "do what you do best" and then have them show met what they come up with and if I wanted to change anything then I could.

We have gotten as far as the separating into likes and dislikes piles and we ended up with about 300 likes - so NOW we have to yet again go through and narrow it down to 100

As much as I loved my wedding - I kinda figured after the day was over - I would no longer have to stress over it......along came the proofs

I can't remember what percentage of our pictures were from the reception alone, but we are having a digital album and all we did is about 80-100 pictures we liked best. Most seemed to be untraditional photos unless they were portraits with family. I actually didn't hand in any reception entrance, cake cutting or first married kiss pictures because they didn't look great.
I am so curious to see what the graphic designer will do with the album.
