Answering doors to trick or treaters...
DH and I always answer our door to trick or treaters and give them candy. I love Halloween! My question is this: Do you answer the doors to older kids, like the teens? I don't like their attitudes and the ones in my neighborhood have attitudes.
what I kind of don't like is how they show up in jeans and a t-shirt and go trick or treating? I'm sorry but if you still insist on going trick or treating as a teenager at least get dressed up in a costume.
I don't know maybe it's just me...

I agree, it's crazy for a teenage to even trick or treat, and to do so with no costume, even worse. What about the ones in black, covered in shaving cream?
I'd kill my kids if they tried to pull that.

Oh yes I get those too! We are peeking through our blinds and if we see it's teenagers we are not answering the door. We are only answering the door to the little kids who get excited about dressing up in costumes and going trick or treating.

I am an equal opportunity door opener. I had some lame costumes as a teenager - we went out because it was still fun

I hate the ones that don't even try too! Black sweats and jeans and covered in shaving cream is not a costume - BUT - I do answer and give them candy simply because I am a wuss, and always afraid that some annoying Trick will befall me if I don't.

yes teens should have fun too but to show up with a t-shirt and jeans and asking for candy is just plain lame. At least get dressed up, it's more fun.
What I don't like is the teens in my neighborhood that have attitudes. If they don't see the candy they want they'll ask if I have it. You ungrateful brat take the candy that's there!

Re: Answering doors to trick or treaters...
Thinking back, my friends and I probably did the same thing, covered in shaving cream and all. Nowadays, I'd be a little leary answering the door to teenagers, but I proabably still would.

that's true...you never what they might do. But like l said I am peaking through my blinds. I'm not on ground level. I'm on the 2nd floor of a two family house so they won't even see me peaking...lol

Yeah, if that was the case, I'd do that too.
But, our living room is the front room of our house and the door is right there, so they could totally see we're there. Darn whippersnappers!!

I love giving out candy to the kids but these darn teenagers can be a pain the but. I never went trick or treating as a teen. I think I stopped after I was 11...

That's too funny!! Eh, I give to all. It's one of the perks of being young. Now if a 30 year old came to my door, it would be another story. But if they want to act young and stay young, more power to them. It's just candy. In fact my biggest group of halloween "groupies" we have in the neighborhood is the teens. We have the house all done up with strobe lights, music, monsters, etc. My husband dresses up and scares the teens. They know the routine but they love it anyway. Some of them are getting up in their late teens but they still come to get "scared! I always keep paper towels and bottled water on hand by the door too, so that the shaving creamed kids can clean off. Did you ever get that stuff in your eyes?

Re: Answering doors to trick or treaters...
I'm also an equal opportunity trick or treater - I ask the non-costume kids what they're dressed as - and they come up with some pretty inventive ideas.
So if they're covered in head to toe in shaving cream & say they're a pile of shaving cream, fair is fair. Then again, I'd also give John Belushi candy for being a zit.
edt. Ok I'd scream and then give John Belushi the whole bag of candy if he actually came to my door.
