anti-anxiety meds...
I was on Lexapro for deppression and anxiety. My Dr. wanted me to stop it because he didnt want me on it for long. He said I was young (although I dont feel it...im 37) and didnt want me on it. I felt it helped, but I feel like I need something stronger. Im always anxious and finding Im getting very angry all the time and sometimes I lose my patience and yell at my kids and I dont mean to This is what is killing me, I try to take a deep breath and relax, but that doest help. I want to stop feeling like this. Anyone on something diffrent and you like? Feel free to FM me. Thanks

Re: anti-anxiety meds...
Zoloft has helped me a lot. I've been on it about 5 yrs ( except when I was pregnant)

Re: anti-anxiety meds...
I would see a psychiatrist in this case since your PCP is not comfortable keeping you on meds.
People at all ages are on these meds for as long as they need to be.
If lexapro was working for you and now it's not then it's time to change it up.

Re: anti-anxiety meds...
i agree..who is prescribing this? a psych doc or a gp?
age especially as a grown woman makes no sense.
i am 36 and if i wasnt pg i would still be on lexapro.
unless you are a child or teen age isnt a factor. what is a factor is being properly evaluated and constant checkups with a good therapist NOT a gp.
hoep you feel better soon

Re: anti-anxiety meds...
hey dianne...please DO not let your gp give you meds for anything other than short term. a psych doc would never do that to you.
i dont know of any near you .i see one in massapequa but you would have to bill your insurance out of network but she is amazing. fm if you need more info xo

Re: anti-anxiety meds...
I wholeheartedly agree about getting meds prescribed by a psychiatrist and having regular appointments with one to evaluate how well the meds are working. I see one and have been for about three years now. She's fantastic at pinpointing my symptoms and find a medicine that works best for those particular symptoms. I am on Zoloft and have been for about 2.5 years, including through my pregnancy. It's a life saver for me and much of the reason I am on it is because my anxiety gets so high that I become irritable, snap at my husband, my kids, etc., and I can't get myself out of it. Zoloft has changed my life. Literally! I'm calm, relaxed, have almost zero moments of floating anxiety. I'm even, but still feel like myself and still experience a range of emotions, whereas when I was on Cymbalta, I was so flat, never laughed, cried, felt anything. So definitely see a psychiatrist! Mine's in Stony Brook if you want her info.
