Anti-Anxiety Meds and Pregnancy

I was just curious if anyone is on any meds while pregnant or ttc? On top of mc's there is alot of family stuff going on right now (when it rains right) and my therapist thinks I should go on for a little while but I really don't want to get used to something that i would then have to get off and I obviously would never want to take anything that could hurt a baby..Just thought I would ask. Thanks!

My dr said what I take is ok for when I am PG but I may want to take a lower dose (I take Zoloft). Check with your dr Chat Icon I know it is scary to think you may not be on them Chat Icon

Same here, i actually had to lower my dosage before TTC and eventually go off before pregnancy. I decided to try it without the medication for a while, and if I feel like I need something my doctor said there are plenty of options for pregnant women.

I went off of everything. I am not TTC yet but I made sure that I was clean of all those meds.

Yeah, same here...I was on Paxil for depression for about 3 years, and I felt like I could safely taper off the meds for the sake of getting pregnant. It's been about 8 months and so far, so good...I think as long as they're not sure what the effect is on the fetus, you should stay away from it...unless it's absolutely necessary. JMO.

Re: Anti-Anxiety Meds and Pregnancy

If you are on a medication such as Xanax or Valium - those are taken on an "as needed" basis and I would stop as soon as you can while TTC and certainly before pregnant. They are controlled substances and very addictive.

If you are on an anti-depressant such as Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro or Prozac, then it is really important to be monitored by a doctor and be tapered off at a regulated pace. If you stop cold turkey (for lack of a better term even though they are no addictive medications), your symptoms of depression can return very quickly and sometimes even worse than before you were on the meds in the first place. That would not be helpful to you or your unborn child when you become pregnant

If you feel you need some assitance with your symptoms, I personally would see a professional who could help you work through problems so you can TTC and have a healthy pregnancy.

My problem was that I started with xanax for anxiety and became dependant on it and took it everyday. It took me a good 3 months to wein myself off of it. The last time I took it was December 24th and I am so glad I got off of it. I feel so much better for it.
