antibiotics and TTC

I am currently taking a 30 day prescription for my break outs on my face. It is called Doryx. I am 10 days into it, and I was planning on starting to TTC this month so I don't know whether it is ok to finish taking this medicine for the next 20 days or not..?? What do u girls think?

It's probably best to finish your prescription. I have posted before that whenever I take antiobiotics, it throws off my ovulation date and AF. I am not sure if this happens to everyone and with all antibiotics. I also suggest using something like fertilityfriend.com to understand your cycle. It helps!

DEFINITELY finish it, and possibly wait another month to get it out of your system! my dermatologist told me that all of the skin antibiotics are classified as dangerous to pregnant women, so it needs to be out of your system before you try. Ask him how long you need to wait after finishing the pills.

There are some antibiotics that are OK, but the derma. ones are not.

Did you tell your doctor you were TTC when he prescribed this? Honestly, I think there is no way you can TTC this month. Tetracyclines are VERY dangerous for pregnant women, and you need it out of your system.

In either case, this is a great forum, but whenever there is a question about prescribed meds and TTC, you really need to check with your MD. Chat Icon

If you are not willing to finish it and wait like ready2ttc suggests, then definitely speak to your doctor. HTH!

I just did a quick google search and it says to speak to your doctor if you are taking that medication and pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant - so I'd definitely do so before TTC this month!
