Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

I tried Lexapro for about 2 weeks and was having a whole bunch of strange side effects (and still had anxiety) so I stopped taking it.

Now, when I'm a little stressed and anxious I take a supplement called Stress Arrest (it's vitamin B, Gaba and some other stuff). It really helps and the best part is it is all natural.

If I'm really anxiety ridden, I take a Xanyx.

I also took Lexapro for a brief period of time and I loved it. I went off once I found out I was PG, but as soon as I stop breastfeeding, I'm going right back on again. I was on 5mg and it took about a week to kick in.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

Xanex worked for me, and I was also on Effexor. I didn't care for the latter so much. I am not on anything now and I just deal with anxiety on my own.

I've taken Zoloft and also Paxil. Paxil did nothing for me, and zoloft worked, but took a long time to kick in , almost 3 weeks. It worked great once it started to work. As for Xanax, the stuff is great but very addictive so be careful.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

The only thing that ever worked for me was Paxil and have been taking it off and on for about 8 yrs now. It takes a good 3-4 weeks to get into your system. There are other meds available if you need something to work sooner.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

DH takes Effexor for when he has anxiety attacks and it's worked wonders for him. He's so much calmer and more relaxed now and hasn't had a panic attack in months.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

I am on Lexapro...but am weaning off now. I was on it for about 3 yrs...started at 10 mg for a week, at first I felt like I was in a dream world...and was still having panic attacks, so they upped my dosage to 20 mg. It started to work within the 1st week but it does take up to a month to feel the full effects. I did have some sides effects at first, clenching teeth at night, night-sweats...no appetite...but that was about it, eventually they diminished. It helped me A LOT! I was getting severe panic attacks EVERY DAY! The only thing is since then I have gained 25-30 pounds...I can't say it was only the meds...since I feel better I do eat more, I also noticed a change in libido...and energy level, I always wanted to sleep on the 20 mg. and there was a time where I felt I had no emotion...but as time went on I started to feel like myself again...minus the anxiety. So it did work...If you have any questions FM me about it.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

This is really something to discuss with a psychiatrist. There are many options for dealing with anxiety- therapy and medication, but if you chose to go the meds route, I'd highly suggest talking to a psychiatrist.. They'll know better than a general practitioner about side effects and going on and off meds. Goodluck!

I took Lexapro for a few years and yes, I do have to say it did help me somewhat with everyday anxiety and depression. I never had any side effects until I decided to come off it. No one ever tells you about the withdrawal effects and I think that is wrong. It was not a pleasant experience. Please FM me is you have any more questions.

Re: Anxiety Medicine Help!

Anxiety here.

Was on Lexapro for about 2 years. Went off because I felt like I could handle things better. I had therapy as well.

Then a year later I felt I wanted to try it again and the doc game me Lexapro. Took it for about 6 months and went off. It wasn't as great as Zoloft. With both, I did gain some weight. SSRIs tend to do that.

I have been and still go to therapy. I feel it's what really helps me at this point. I recommend both. My regular doc prescribed it and he also knows my therapist.

Side effects on Zoloft in the very beggining were nausea, headaches and a little insomnia. All of these passed within a week.

Full effects kicked in about 3 weeks.

I had no side effects from Lexapro.

eta: I call them, I don't give a sh!t pills". They made me not stress over stuff I shouldn't.
