Any advice please...
We are planning on adopting a 2nd dog from a shelter soon.... I was just wonderiing how I should go about introducing to my 1st furbaby (Dozer). Do we find a dog we would like & then bring Dozer to meet at the shelter or do we just bring the dog home. Or should we have them meet at another location like a park?

Certain shelters will let you (and even encourage you) to bring your dog to meet a potential adoptive dog. I think this is a good start, but also be aware that your dog may react differently at home when it is just the two of them.
Someone recently posted about how to introduce a second dog....let me see if I can find it....
OK, here is my response to the other poster, who has a husky.
"If you can have the dogs meet ahead of time that can help.
When we bring home a new pup (which we have done several times as we have 4 dogs), we always have "treats & toys" for the new dogs. We bring them all outside usually, on neutral turf. We have DH with the new dog and I bring the others over & let them explore. We of course stay near just in case. We keep them all on the leash during introductions and during the first few walkings.
Huskies are pack animals so you *should* be ok with another dog. Just be aware that they will vie for Alpha Status. One of the most important ways to do this is to make sure you & SO are the alphas...not the dog. As far as the jealousy issues, every dog is different regarding what they will tolerate or not.
Has your Husky been around other dogs? Have you ever had another dog in your home? (even for a visit)"

Thanks!! We are not sure how Dozer is going to be. He isn't aggresive but he has what we call 'Only Dog Syndrome'. This is part of the reason we want to get a 2nd. When we bring him to the dog park he doesn't want to leave our side.

Re: Any advice please...
Hi, i'm the previous poster with the husky. We just adopted our second dog and got him friday night. He had already came to the house a few days earlier with someone from the rescue to see how they would be on our dog's "home" turf.
It's weird, i think our husky is ok with the new dog, but i wish I could ask her!!

Well a dog park is not your dogs turf, so for a variety of reasons I would not necessarily equate that to how your pup is at home. For example, our Shiba Inu, Loki, is a terror at the dog run, but is mellow at home with our other dogs...
Do you know anyone with a dog that you can have a puppy play date at your home?

Most shelters and rescue organizations require your pet(s) be brought to shelter.
