Any Baking (or Cooking) Flops to Share?
Anyone have any baking or cooking flops from the holidays to share?
I made gingerbread which split in half, and chocolate chip cookies which are big, hard grease blobs (I'm guessing I didn't measure the baking soda or the flour correctly).
After that, I gave up! We went to a bakery.

I used a chocolate chip cookie recipe that calls for vanilla pudding, and I used banana cream pudding instead. Gross!! 6 dozen cookies into the trash!

I made a flourless chocolate cake - this was my first time making it, and the recipe said that the center should be gooey. It was gooey all right! A little too much. I probably should've baked it for a couple of more minutes. But it was still awesome!

I have two:
I tried to soften brown sugar by putting it in the microwave and accidentally cooked it. My chocolate chip cookie dough was chocolate chip soup. The whole thing went in the garbage. Gross.
I was making chocolate thumbprints with vanilla glaze in the center & tried to get creative by adding red food coloring to the glaze. It tastes good, but looks like each cookie has a gob of Pepto Bismal in the center. I told DH they were all for him, his family was not going to see that!

My chocolate covered cherry cookies were so soft and when I stored them in a ziploc they all stuck together. My fudge was a total flop. The sugar apparently didnt' get hot enough to melt. Good thing I taste tested it first. I think that was it for me.

I made coconut macaroons w/ dried cranberries last week. I got the recipe from here. They looked awsome, tased horrible, not sure what I did wrong. I'm determined to get them right though.

Re: Any Baking (or Cooking) Flops to Share?
I've had many...
- too much flour (cookies crumble) - too much salt (blech!) - too much butter (cookies run together on the pan) - too much stand mixer (rock hard cakes) - too much time in the oven
I tend to lose count...

DH bought a bag of frozen fruit and figured as one of the desserts we could serve fruit cocktails....well, he apparently didn't leave enough time to defrost - we ended up serving frozen fruit. At least this time it wasn't my mess up - usually it is!
