Any candy makers? ADDED A QUESTION

I did a test run of candied apples tonight. My friend is having a carnival theme for her DD 1st bday. They look great, but I feel like the shell is hard to bite through. Is that how it's supposed to be? I brought the candy up to 310 like the recipe called for. Should I try it at 290 instead? Or is there a trick to getting the shell a little thinner?
Any help would be appreciated. I have until next Sunday to figure it out.

ETA- do you think I should do all candy apples? Or a mix of candy and caramel?

Re: Any candy makers?

It's supposed to be a hard candy shell on the apples. The first bite is the hardest/messiest, and then it's supposed to be easier after that.

I always find them to be very hard to bite like that. That's why I don't really like them. Chat Icon

I feel like all candy apples are hard to bite through. I think it is supposed to be like that.

But I am limited in experience. I've only made raspberry filled chocolates, marzipan filled chocolates and chocolate covered orange peel. The orange peel does call for a syrup but not like a candy apple coating. However, I eat a ton of candy apples!

Never made candy before but I think a mix of caramel and candy would be great!

I recently saw chocolate covered apple slices on a stick on pinterest and thought it was such an awesome idea! Especially for kids- so much easier to eat! You could easily do caramel or candy in place of chocolate.

Re: Any candy makers? ADDED A QUESTION

I would say a mix of candy and caramel would be a good idea. Caramel ones are easier IMO....

The apple slices thing seems like a great idea!!!
