Any computer/internet geniuses out there?
If so please fm me I have a quick question - would really appreciate it thank you!
Ok - since I am not getting any fm's maybe someone can help. Instead of the regular ads on the side of web pages on certain websites I am getting these topless woman advertising websites. I don't know where this came from but it never happened before and I am worried I have picked up some sort of virus or something on my computer. How does this happen and how can I get rid of it?
Also, I am the only one who uses this laptop and I've never gone to these kind of sites!
ETA: Thanks for the sites ladies - I am going to try them. Has anyone ever had this happen before? How does it attach to your computer?

Re: Any computer/internet geniuses out there?
I think it is some type of spyware. Look through your Programs installed under the control Panel. Also do you have spyware blockers set up on your computer?

Re: Any computer/internet geniuses out there?
Download Ad-Aware from HERE
And run it on your laptop.
I'm sure it'll find alot of junk and clean it up.
Good luck!

AdAware is great. We used to use it all the time at work.

I would clear all of your cookies and also check for applications that are running on your computer-- and delete any that you have no idea what they do.

Re: Any computer/internet geniuses out there?
A long list, but this will make sure that you clear your problem now, and won't encounter any in the future.
1. Download Ad-aware/Spybot, install and run them to clear out any baddies.
2. Update your virus definitions and run a virus scan. If you don't have antivirus, buy it!
3. Configure your AV to download updates automatically, set it for a time when you're computer is going to be on.
4. Download and Install security patches. Open up IE, and goto Tools, Windows Update. Download and install security updates. (If you don't want IE 7, make sure to uncheck it!)
5. Set your computer to download and install security updates automatically. Goto start, Control panel, Windows Security Center. Configure Automatic Updates to run when your computer is going to be on.
Good Luck!

Re: Any computer/internet geniuses out there?
I use Ad-aware and Spybot all the time, on all my computers. I see a download site for Ad-aware in a previous reply. Here's the Spybot site: Spybot download
FYI, there is no anti-spyware tool that gets everything. The best thing to do is get a few different programs, and attack the spyware from several angles. I've had some spywares that weren't found by 3 programs. Luckily, the 4th one caught it. Sometimes, if I can figure out what spyware it is, I'll search the web for a tool that is specifically targetted for that spyware.
