Re: Any Disney tips for Special Needs??

My son has special needs, and we utilize the DAS system for him. It used to be a written card, but now everything is on the magic band.

On your first day in your first park, go to guest services INSIDE the park (at Magic Kingdom it's City Hall). Tell them your child's needs, and that you would like to request to utilize their disability access system. They will scan your entire parties bands, take your sons picture, and you are good to go for your entire stay. You only need to do this once, not at each park.

Then, you go to the ride you want to get a return time for, and they scan your son's band and tell you the return time. The return time will be 10 minutes less than the current ride's wait time. So if the wait is 45 minutes, you will be instructed to come back in 35 minutes OR anytime after that. Then you enter the ride through the fastpass entrance, scan your son's band first, the light will turn blue, then the cast member will clear it, and the rest of your party scans your band.

It's important to know that you can only have ONE return time at a time. Once you use your outstanding one, you can get another.

You CAN use this in conjunction with your regular fastpass reservations. The DAS ride time WILL show up in your My Disney Experience account or App in case you forget the time.

We just returned from Disney, and it was a smooth experience for us.

You can also get them to tag the stroller as a wheelchair. My son was able to wait in lines in the stroller and we got to use wheelchair entrances. Made waiting so much easier on us. between the stroller thing and the fast pass like return times, we got to go on so many rides and very few meltdowns. Success!

This was Disneyland we went to but I assume the same both places.

Just a side note, 99% of the attractions at Disney have wheelchair accessible lines now, there is no more need to go through the fastpass or exit area for most. Thus, Disney World will no longer issue a DAS for JUST a mobility issue. They will however, still tag the stroller as a wheelchair. Whether or not you are given a DAS is dependent on the other needs, so be prepared to express those.

No letter, and legally they can't ask for one.

A mobility issue is one in which the person uses a wheelchair or walker, or doesn't have the stamina to stand in a line. They typically tell you that all the lines are wheelchair accessible, and they offer them for rent (you can tag your stoller as a wheelchair), and thus won't issue them a DAS. You will be required to wait in the regular line (or get fastpasses). Now if he has other needs, like will melt down, etc. you can explain those, and they will probably issue you a DAS which allows you to return to the ride at your scheduled time rather than wait in the line. Their previous system allowed pretty much any need to to utilize the service. They have changed things, and it's harder now, but again, explain your needs and you probably won't have an issue.

Ok thanks. I think we will be ok as long as he can wait in his stroller.
