Any evening working moms out there?

How does it work out for you?

I have been working 7:30-3:30 for quite some time but my one job ended yesterday and I (hooray) landed a new job last night. but it's evenings.

It's what I wanted so I can be with Sydnie during the day and have an easier time with baby sitting but it's 5 nights and I was hoping for 3-4. Chat Icon

I am so worried about my energy level and not being there to put her to bed.

There has only been 1 night that I did not do the nightime routine and I was sad to miss it.

Please tell me I'll adjust Chat Icon

Annie, you will adjust, you will. Just think about the fact that you will get to enjoy the best part of the day with Sydnie. You will be able to do so many great activities this summer.
And you know that as a mom you find the energy and make it work, it is what we do!

Re: Any evening working moms out there?

I work evenings but have a very flexible employer, so I basically go in when I want. I will tell you, taking care of just DD all day (since DS is at school) then going to work for 5+ hours is a little rough, but it's worth it.

Annie, first of all congrats on the job!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

The 5 nights a week will probably be overwhelming at first. You are still left with 2 nights a week to put Syd to bed. And best yet, you get to spend ALL DAY with her!!!! I would consider it to almost be the best of both worlds (working and stay at home).

Hang in there. I think you will wind up being really happy about this schedule in the long run.

Re: Any evening working moms out there?

I work evenings(4p-12a) and absolutely love it! I feel that I get the best of both worlds. I feel that I get to be a stay at home mom during the best parts of the day and I get to spend a good 9-10 hrs with DD and do lots of activities all day(beach, park..etc)

When I leave her (with DH) at 3 I only miss a couple of hours becaue she goes to bed around 7-8pm..

Sure, I do miss putting DD to bed at night but the way I look at it is that I get to be there when she wakes up EVERy morning!!!

About the energy level...as a mom we just naturay adjust to maybe getting less sleep. I do not get to bed until 12:30-1am and am up with dd at 6 am... it just works ( and the coffee is a huge help too..haha)

On the 2 days that you are off, just take it a little easy, I use those 2 days to nap a little more and sleep in a little bit to recover from the week.

Good luck and congrats on the job!!!!
