Any experience with adware/spyware? odd stuff
I have been getting a ton of daily spam emails from all different sources advertising whatever I happened to be searching on google the previous days. For example, I spent some time online the other day buying bins, canisters, drawer sorters, etc. from a few different sites to organize my kitchen. Today I get an email advertising "pot racks-to organize your kitchen". Here's the strange thing, it's not only happening to the email address I use to shop with. It's also happening to my personal email address that I only use for friends and family.
I did a malware run and nothing turned up.
I know I can mark is as spam, but I'd like to know how it knows what I've been searching for. I just thought of something else--I use firefox or chrome depending on my mood. But I don't think the problem is with either one exclusively.
Should I experiment with it? Search for something completely ridiculous and see if I get emails for it?

it's called spidering.. it's hard to explain but it captures all of your searches from webpages you visit regardless of email address... alot of websites have robots that'll scan for email addresses on the pages you visit as well..
just spam the emails.

Thanks--but who is it originating with? We own our own domain name, which is what our email is through. Could it be through the hosting place? I never get this stuff on my work email or gmail accounts.

no, it's generated through the sites that you visit..
anytime you visit a site within that site that you visit there are robots that scan the site for people like you that are browsing those sites.. they take a snapshot of your info and then spam you with emails
does that make sense?
