any good pet stores to take DS to LOOK
He loves animals, so I'd like to take him to a pet store just to check out the animals. (Not buy!) Can anyone recommend? I live in Eastern Nassau, but can drive a bit.

I'm not sure if it's still there, but there used to be one next to Chili's on Hempstead Tpke in I think it's Bethpage - they had tons of animals and then a bunch of really random exotic animals.

Re: any good pet stores to take DS to LOOK
What about visitng NSAL or a shelter? Just think taking DC into pet stores sort of brings them up with the concept that pets are like objects and can be "bought" in a store on a whim. Maybe even petco as they often have rescue cats in the store that need homes. Trying to think where else that is not a pet store. Hmm...does he like dogs?
Old Westbury Gardens is having their Dog Days coming up in April. So many dogs, so many families, and a beautiful place to spend the day (and there are plenty of places on the grounds to escape dogs if you need dog free time while there.

There is a pet store in the Mall at RFM. In same area at Build a Bear. They are used to people looking at dogs.
For fish, birds, guinea pigs, go to Petco or Petland

Re: any good pet stores to take DS to LOOK
The Reptile Museum and the store in Bethpage are closed. Any Petco would be good for small animals...I believe the pet store in Bayshore mall is still open also.

Sounds like my son. Petco and Petsmart are great too. Funny, the workers at our Petco know us so well, that whenever come into the store, they take a ferret out for him to touch.

The farmingdale petsmart is fun b/c they have doggie daycare to watch, plus you can play at the bookstore then get lunch at the bagel place.

Same - AND people bring their dogs with them so as long as they're friendly, he gets to pet dogs too! We spend an hour+ in Petco all the time!
ETA: He loves the birds too!

Wow, thats a great point.
We usually go to Petco. I can't even pull in the parking lot to go to rite aid without her saying " I wanna see the birds!"
