Re: Any Guidance Counselors?
Don't do it! There are no jobs. They are extremely competitive, like nothing you've ever seen. The interviews can have up to 6 rounds. Most open spots go straight to people administrators know. Unless you are moving out of state, get another degree. FYI- I work as a counselor but at a non-profit afterschool program. I love it, but I went to grad school to work in a school district.
PS. go for Spanish, you'll get a job.

Re: Any Guidance Counselors?
Sorry I didn't answer your FM, I'll answer you here - I would totally go for the degree in Spanish -- you will get a job much quicker. I don't believe that counseling jobs just go to people administrators know, but it is a very tough field to get into, especially in the NYC metro area/LI. Too much supply, not enough demand - there are about 6 grad schools in the area that all have counseling programs so the field is completely flooded. One of the programs on LI - will remain nameless to protect the not so innocent, takes 200 students a semester into their program, which I think is disgusting - I know that the school districts don't like this either as there are way too many people looking for a limited amount of jobs.

Re: Any Guidance Counselors?
ITA- I know of many specific cases where guidance jobs went straight to people administrators knew.
