Any idea why this would happen?

The last few days DD has random screaming fits...I mean she fine one minute and then out of nowhere starts screaming bloody murder!!! She turns bright red, the tears are flowing, she even chokes sometimes. Definitely seems like she's in some sort of pain or discomfort.

She doesn't appear hungry (I try to give her a bottle), she has a clean diaper and I don't think she tired because she napped and had a good night.

She's 11 weeks - could it be a growth spurt? teething? She also has a stuffy nose, but seems fine otherwise....

any ideas?

Re: Any idea why this would happen?

maybe she had a little gas ......how does she stop crying do you have to sing to her or do bicycle feet??
DD has moments like this and honestly I am not really sure exactly what is wrong so I just sing IN her ear and do the bicycle feet and if that doesnt work I gently bounce her up and down

Re: Any idea why this would happen?

It seems a little bit early for teething, though it could be. It may be gas pains. It can also be an ear infection. You may want to bring her to the doctor just in case. Chat Icon

What are signs of an ear infection? She doesn't have a fever and I don't see her playing with her ears.

LeighAnn I usually bring her in a dark room, shush in her ear while gently bouncing her. It takes a good 10 - 15 minutes to calm her down sometimes.

When my baby did this it was usually gas. If I stood up holding him and his legs dangled he usually calmed a little and mylicon is a dream it seems to work quickly too! Just a thought! Good Luck.

It sounds like gas. It can be very painful and comes out of nowhere. Try bicycling her legs to help relieve some pressure.

I agree that it's probably gas.

I posted this before but here it is again if you need it:
You have a time frame between when a baby's gas is in it's stomach vs when it gets down to its intestines. If you can get the burp out before it gets to instestinal gas, you'll have a lot less screaming.

Gas Tips:

Feed your baby - as best you can - at a 90 degree angle. For those of you failing geometry, that means she/he is almost in a sitting position on your lap. We used a Podee for Maddie.

Burp her/him often during or immediately after the feeding. If you can get the burp out before it has traveled down to their intestines - that will eliminate painful intestinal gas (and their shrieks of pain).

If a baby has severe gas & won't stop crying, hold the baby in your arms, support the head. Do a quick knee bend. The gravity will relieve the pressure. I used to walk around the house doing this with Maddie.

Ear infection symptoms for my kids were:
swatting at their ears
fever
will drink a few sips of bottle, stop, cry, drink a few sips of bottle, stop, cry. (drinking hurts their ears).

Check her belly to see if it feels hard, sometimes you can actually feel the gas. I agree, try the bicycle.

Could still be teething though.
