Would an suv work? Check out my post a few down for the codes. I found them on slickdeals.net. And yes, also check out costcotravel.com, Hotwire.com and Priceline.com too.

Mousesavers.com has coupon codes for car rentals. Check prices through AAA, the car rental companies (join their loyalty programs). I would check if there's a difference picking up the car at the airport vs a regular location. IIRC the rates can sometimes vary. I would also be careful about milage - I have it in my head that car rental companies around here charge for excess milage.

I would try Costco. I picked up one of their travel guides and it had a lot of car rental deals.
Also, sign up for loyalty programs/emails on the rental sites.
Check out hotwire, expedia, etc

We usually book through Bjs or Costco and rent through Alamo.
