DH and I are moving to Matawan for those same reasons. there is a NJ transit train in the town and it's close to the Garden State PKway. My DH also commutes to NYC.

Not a Jersey peep, but my cousins are, and they commute every day. They had a townhouse in Montclair and now own a house in Livingston. I have no idea where they are in relation to NYC, but both neighborhoods are gorgeous!!

Re: any jersey peeps?
We live in Dunellen - central NJ (Middlesex / Somerset border). To commute into the city, check out the train lines. For example, where I live the train line is Raritan Valley - you have to take it to Newark then switch to the NY train. Otherwise, you can take the Northeast Corrider which is direct, or some of the other lines....it's been a while since I've commuted but now I'm forgetting LOL....

Re: any jersey peeps?
hi! i live in rockaway, nj. i love it here! the schools are good, houses are reasonbly priced.. and there is an NJ Transit train in the next town over ( DEnville). i don't commute into the city, but i know a few people who do, and say its not bad! Denville is a nice town, too- if you want to live even closer to the train. good schools again, and a really cute downtown area with some good restaurants, coffee shops, stores, a couple bars... its a nice place to go hang out. ETA: both of these towns are in morriis county

Livingston is a couple of towns over from me. Not a bad commute to the city either. There is no train though, you can take the bus, but you can always take the train from one of the surrounding towns.

I use to live in Monmouth County - Hazlet to be exact. There's a train station in town and it took about an hour when I'd commute into NYC. The schools in Hazlet are great though it's a little expensive.

Re: any jersey peeps?
We live in Somerset county NJ. It is an hour commute to NYC in traffic from our house. With no traffic i.e. 10:30 am on a weekday it is 30 minutes. I think most places on the Morris-Essix line will get you into the city within the hour from Far Hills, NJ. For about 400k you can get a 3bed 2.5 bath townhome here. It is excellent schools -#9 in the state.

Agree. If I were a NYC Commuter, I would love to live in Montclair -- and should be able to find something in that range.
I'm in Passaic County and can take the train from Montclair or a Bus in PA. It's about an hour.

Re: any jersey peeps?
We were looking for the same. So we looked in : Old Bridge Wood bridge Sayreville Keyport(got very mixed reviews about it) I also know Matawan and Manalapan are nice and so is Marlboro. They all have good schools, affordable real estate and easy commute to NYC. Will add more if I think of them.

Re: any jersey peeps?
I live in Middletown and LOVE IT! There is the train that takes about an hour and 10 from me into the city. No transfers. You can also take the ferry out of the highlands if you want. The schools are great, and you are 10 minutes from the beach! Also...Red Bank is right next door with tons to do. FM me if you have any questions.
You can also look in the Cranford, Westfield and Clark area. Those towns are nice and about 40 minutes during commuting hours to the city.
