Any mommies here have DC with VSD and/or pulmonary stenosis?
So as some of you may already know. I have a 2.5 year old DS and am currently 25 weeks with identical twin girls.
3 weeks ago I had a fetal echo. They told me the babies weren't completely cooperating and I needed to come back in 2 weeks.
I went back today. I was told Twin A has VSD as well as pulmonary stenosis and Twin B has VSD.
I have an appointment at Schneider's next week for a third fetal echo and at that time I will speak with a pediatric cardiologist. But the doctor I spoke with today really wouldn't give me any info about what the babies have. Of course Google is a scary place and all I read are these worst case scenarios.
So, please tell me your experiences, knowledge, anything you can tell me I appreciate.

I was born with VSD and followed by a peds cardiologist. Mine closed on its own by the time I was 5 years old. You would never know anything was wrong with my heart

DD was born with a VSD and it closed on its own by 5 months. My niece was also born with a VSD that closed on it's own by about 9 months. for your little ones!

Re: Any mommies here have DC with VSD and/or pulmonary stenosis?
VSD is a ventral septal defect which means that there is an opening between the right and left ventricles...I believe there is a very good chance that a VSD will close by itself (somewhere around 60%ish)....if not, I think that they are possibly able to repair it through a cardiac cath which is an insertion through an artery in the leg, so its not as invasive as open heart surgery. The reason it is a problem is b/c if the hole remains open, SOME blood from the L side of the heart is going to the R without hitting the lungs and becoming oxygenated. Your baby will still be able to breathe fine, but their levels will just have to be monitored to make sure everything is ok...
Pulmonary stenosis means that the pulmonic artery taking blood from the heart to the lungs has a narrowed passage way. Right now, there shouldn't be a huge issue b/c your baby is not using his/her lungs as much, but they will most likely want to repair it once your baby is born (unless it is extremely minor). They will usually insert a stint to open the passageway....
The recovery rate on babies with these conditions is VERY good and at birth, you won't even really realize that there is an issue. The doctors will monitor your baby's BP and oxygen levels to make sure they are on top of their conditions....
Hope this helped a little...Good luck with everything and keep us posted!

Re: Any mommies here have DC with VSD and/or pulmonary stenosis?
Thanks for all the info, girls. I hate this "waiting" game. Wish they could have given me an appointment sooner. I keep telling DH I want to look at the glass half full and believe these are both on the less severe side.

DD was born with 2 holes in her heart. One closed in the NICU on its own and the other closed months later on its own.

Re: Any mommies here have DC with VSD and/or pulmonary stenosis?
DS had a VSD and it closed sometime between 10-12 months old. The cardiologist told us that if a child is going to have some sort of defect, this is the one that you want them to have because they usually repair themselves. He has to go back to the cardiologist for one more sono/echo when he's two years old and then we never have to go again! I'm sure everything will be fine with the babies
