Any moms have babies NOT on the growth chart anymore???
So Alexa has officially fallen off the growth chart SHe's a peanut. Almost 10 months and weighs 15.8
My ped is being really good about it....... SHe has also come down in length and is 25% for length. Her head is 45% which is great so her brain is developing.
We are trying to figure out more HIGH FAT content foods to give her....
SHe has been dairy free since her reflux was aggravated by dairy a few months back... We are going to try and slowly re-introduce dairy again so hopefully she can tolerate that and we can start giving her some high fat dairy...
the ped told us to put a little butter on her veggies and cook with butter so I'm going to do that
I was giving her avocados but they aren't in season any more and are kinda yucky....
What else can I give her???? She isn't walking yet (cruising) so our major concern at this point is that she drops even more when she starts walking....
THis is hard for DH and I to grasp since we are both a bit heavy and are always WATCHING our fat intake and now I have a kid that needs it.
I want to give her higher fat foods but still do it healthy....
Any moms with experience or advice or any nutritionists on here??
I'm desperate for help!

I was going to suggest avocados too. What about hummus? Is that "fatty"?

Hummus has tahini in it (sesame paste) so I'd get ask your ped first, but that's a good suggestion.
I would offer more meat if she'll eat it. Red meat is higher in fat than white meat. Bananas also have some fat in them.

My son fell off the chart for weight we he was about 2. He is 5 years old and a whopping 37 pounds. He is tall and skinny. My ped is not worried since he is growing against his own growth chart each year. He eats a ton, just blessed with that high metabolism.

I give her a lot or chick peas and chicken... I'll start making my own hummus again without the Tahini and see about that

thats great to know... She is growing... just slowly at her own pace. She averages a little over a lb every 6 weeks. So she's growing in HER curve like your son...
I just get so worried... KWIM

Re: Any moms have babies NOT on the growth chart anymore???
Maria, M&J have NEVER been on the chart. At 10 months they both weighed about the same as Alexa. Mady just made it on the chart that month in 5th percentile, and Jonah still wasn't on it. Our ped wasn't concerned at all, and didn't tell us to add any kind of special food to their diet. They have consistently gained 1lb a month, and are growing fine on their own growth curve. I do add butter to their veggies sometimes, although they prefer cheese. Can you give her soy cheese, or does that aggravate her reflux too? How about whole grain breads? Bread is high in calories. Bananas have good fat in them, and avocados are in season somewhere, lol.

Re: Any moms have babies NOT on the growth chart anymore???
my twins were in danger of going off the chart. as of yesterday they are off their high fat diet. they are still little though. 21 lbs and 17 months.... it was b.c they were super mobile and burned so many calories and the weight would not stick...
we gave them haagan daaz- which is very high fat, avocados, bannanas with peanbutter, cheese and crackers , munchkins and chicken nuggets. we did it for 2 monhts. we also added half and half to their whole milk. oil/ butter on veggies is good too. frozen avocados from trader joes are good since fresh is off season.
the dr yesterday said not to continue this as its not necessary and can eventually lead to weight problems. he said a child who is regularly offered food with not starve and as long as they are consistenly gaining weight not to stress about it as it will make it an issue. its a short term solution but i was strongly cautioned to not make this go one for too long. it can lead to so many issues...

thanks! Great to know there are more babies out there like Alexa. We do a lot of bananas and I'm just starting to give her bread that I've been making with flax seeds and higher protein and carb flours. I haven't done soy because of the hormones but if the dairy re-introduction doesn't work I may try it.

Maria - I've been giving Samantha red meat, not alot, but some. My MIL makes pepper steak so it's really thin and easy for her to mash between her gums.

Re: Any moms have babies NOT on the growth chart anymore???
DD is not off the chart but was barely in the 15% for weight and 60% for height at her last visit, so the Ped would like to see her gain a few pounds. Luckily she has no allergies so there are a lot of foods I can give her. She is just a picky eater and eats like a bird as my mom would say.
Some things she eats that are higher in fat content:
Scrambled eggs cooked with a little butter (I put cheese in them too)
Sunflower butter and jelly sandwiches or on ritz crackers.
Avacado (Luckily I am still finding some good ones at my supermarket)
Fried Chicken fingers. I cut pieces of chicken, egg and bread them and then fry with a little veg oil.
Cream cheese and Jelly sandwiches or on Ritz crackers.

Yeah that is what I'm worried about..> I don't want to do all that really high saturated fat stuff. I know she needs some but I know it can lead to problems. Its so hard to find the right balance

Re: Any moms have babies NOT on the growth chart anymore???
DS is 75% height but only 10% for weight. He was born 10th percentile for weight so the pediatrician seems not concerned because he is on his own growth curve.
My DS refuses to eat solids altogether more than half the time. It's so stressful trying to feed him. We are attempting (key word attempt) to feed him meat in efforts to help him gain weight. It's not really working. He eats only fruit only when he feels like it.
My pediatrician did recommend not trying load him up on high fat/calorie foods in efforts to have him gain weight. He told us that is a mistake many parents make and it creates potential problems when the kid grows up and has unhealthy eating habits.

yeah we are trying to stick to good healthy fats and proteins......I dont like the idea of just loading her up to gain weight especially since I have weight issues

I started Sunflower butter around 10 months. There was actually a post on here once with foods your child should have before 1 and sunflower seeds were on it. I haven't tried Almond or cashew butter because they are tree nuts. Typically those allergic to peanuts have a sensitivity to all tree nuts.
