Any moms travel for work?
My oldest just started K, and even though I only work PT, I just got the timeline for my main customer's projects. I'm scheduled to be in Europe the week and weekend of Mother's Day. Looks like I will miss both kids' mother's Day breakfasts at school AND Mother's Day at home with them. I'm going to do what I can to change the timeline (ie deliver my part of project sooner), but has anyone experienced this? If it was my birthday I wouldn't care but it's Mother's Day and I know how excited they get for their events.

I travel for work - its SO hard. I would say first check the country that you are going to be in and the holiday schedule -- that might help with the timing....also see if you can do a video conference, work the time of your customer country. Also you can take red eyes -- so that might buy you a day or two.....

If you cannot change your work schedule -Why not celebrate Mother's Day a week earlier at home? The kids are young enough to not care and you will feel better being away from them at that time.

Re: Any moms travel for work?
I don't travel often and when I do its pretty local. I don't miss those days of travelling to Europe. My husband travels more often than me (like for a week at a time once a month or every other month!) and has missed a lot. He had to miss Landon's preschool graduation this year.
Hopefully it won't happen on schedule!

Re: Any moms travel for work?
I used to travel once or twice a month for a few days at a time, but don't have to with my new job. I've missed a parent/teacher meetings, school trips and a couple of class events. When I was unable to go, DH would try to and if we needed to we'd ask the grandparents.
I know you want to be with them on Mother's Day but can you celebrate before you leave? Also maybe on Mother's day, you can have a virtual breakfast (or meal since you'll be in a different time zone) with the kids via Skype or Facetime.

Yes, fingers crossed they'll ask for my part of the project earlier I know that MIL would LOVE to go in my place and I need to remind myself of all the great things I do get to go to because of my current work arrangements but I just feel bad that it's my middle guy -- I feel like he always gets the short end of the stick.
