Any Moving tips?

We are moving ( about 40 feet Chat Icon ) To the apt directly below us ( it has an extra bedroom ) and I m so unmotivated to do it, but am trying to find the easist way to get things packed up and moved....obviously its down some stairs, but I have to empty drawers and cabinets etc and anyone have any tips to make it go faster? Or easier? Or to be more organized??

I find myself just throwing stuff in the boxes and I knwo its gonna take me forever to figure out where it all goes when we get down there.

TIA!

I wouldn't empty the drawers- just carry them to the new place.

I lived in three different units in the same building. I should be more of a pro than I am. Chat Icon

I meant like kitchen drawers. I basically just DUMPED them into a box...Im thinking I need a better plan then that!

? for you- Did Cable and utilties have to come to set ya up in the new unit? Im thinking that might add a hassle to the mix...

Cable- yes. It was a huge pain, but I just had to call Con Ed and have my account switched. The phone was easy too- the last time anyway. The first time I moved, the people who'd lived in the unit before me never shut off their phone (something mysterious happened there, I never knew what) so it took like a month!

Hire Movers Chat Icon

When we moved from NY to FL yikes. That was a journey.

When we moved from our friends home which is less then a mile we took all the clothes from the closet hangers and all and put them right in the suitcase. The dresser we just put tape on it and moved it as is with the stuff in it, and all my shoes threw in a box and that was it.

About 95% of our stuff was in storage so all of that stuff was already boxed from the NY move so it was just a matter of locating things.

What helped is we numbered every box, then on a seperate sheet of paper wrote the number and the items in the box. It helped locate a lot of items.

Though we're here almost 2 months and still have about 10 boxes remaining in the garage.

Re: Any Moving tips?

is the downstairs apartment vacant already, and do you have a couple of days to move? or do you have to do it in 1 day? b/c hoenstly, with the kitchen stuff and all that .... i would jsut pack a few boxes at a time, bring them down, and unpack them. it may seem like a headache, but you'll LOVE being all moved in so quickly (if thats an option)
