Any of you naming the baby after your dad, also another ? anyone can answer...
So in a previous thread I mentioned the name Carmine which is my dad's name and my DH is the one that would really like it as the baby's first name.
My DH and my father are very close and my DH looks up to him because he never got along with his own father. My DH is like the son my father never had and my father is like the dad my DH never had.
Even though I like the name I can't help to think about the madness it would create from his side. His side is very controlling and gets easily offended with everything. Pretty much the reason why my DH has issues with them. The story with our relationship with that side goes way back, many sad events and heartache but we still manage to be respectful to them. My husband turned to me the other night and he really spoke his mind and said that he would really like to name the baby Carmine if it's a boy.
Any of you naming the baby after your dad and should I not worry about what his family will think if we decide to go with this name?

It is your baby, dont let the family members change your mind. I think it is great that your DH repsects your dad so much and has such a great relationship with him. Do what makes you and DH happy.

Honestly, You don't need to answer or explain to anyone why or why not you are naming your baby.
It's a decision only you and DH will make.
If you guys want Carmine go for it!!!
I named my DD Gianna after Dh's father-Gianna means john in italian, and we are naming our second daughter Amelia Francesca after our deceased grandmothers. When people questioned us, we said simply "It's what we decided"

If we have a boy, we are naming the baby have DH's deseased father. His middle name will be my dads.
It is really no one's business but ours to what we decide to name our baby.
Just find a reason you both agree on and repeat it over and over again to everyone who comments. It's your child, you get to do what you want

exactly. there was some nudging to name our baby the III if (and he was) he was a boy. I refused because I wasn't comfortable with it. DH hesitated, but we chose a name that is unique for our child and a name we find very fitting for him. He is after all, OUR child...after all the work I put into him, I'm more than confident that I can choose an appropriate name.

We are naming our son after my dad, but using my dad's name as the baby's middle name - Carmelo. Frankly, I don't care what anyone has to say about which name we choose. I always told my parents I wouldn't name my baby after them b/c they have such ginzo names, but now that I'm older, I wouldn't have it anyother way. If you and your husband want Carmine - go for it. His side can't control you, nor should they. If they're not the ones who truly care about you and your husband anyway, it really doesn't matter. Life's too short...enjoy it and live it how you want to!!!

If we have a boy, we are undecided on the first name, but the middle name will be Thomas, for my dad.
And honestly, if my il's have a problem with it, I could care less. They seem to have issue with a lot of things I do.

What is traditional in an Italian family for naming a first grandson...maternal or paternal grandfather? Would that solve your dilemia? They really couldnt argue with tradition now could they?
I personally would not make a big issue of it. You cant name the baby after every family member..unless you are like me and wind up having a million children.

Name your son whatever you want to name him!
I think that Carmine is a GREAT name!
I would consider NOT telling anyone his name until after he is born.
Congrats!

I say do what makes you happy - don't worry as much about the other side.
My dad passed away last year and part of me wants to pay tribute as well. For me I feel bad naming the next child after someone else and not my dad. DH wants to use his grandpa's name (first or middle) and while I like the name for a middle name - I just don't feel it is fair to my side (my first son's middle name is also after DH's side) to name 2 kids after one side. Things is dad never really liked his real name and I don't like any boy names that are similar - but it has been weighing on me what to do. My dad went by Al (his full name was ethnic). If we do have a girl - I love so many names that start with Al so a girl would most likely pay tribute...now I have to figure out the boy part.

Our son's middle name will be after my FIL. I think you should do whatever feels right to you and not worry because no matter what you do, you won't make everyone 100% happy. As long as you and DH are happy, that is what matters in the end because it is YOUR child.

The way I see it, if you want to name my child you better give birth to it!
If we have a boy his middle name will be my dad's name. The only reason it won't be the first name is because I don't really like my dad's name - but I adore my dad and want to honor him. I told my MIL my choice for a girl's name 2 years ago and she told me she doesn't like it. Oh well!

you and your DH should name your child freely and with an open heart. if your in-laws are petty enough to disagree with it than that's what they are.. petty. you can't make everyone happy. but i hope your in-laws, as well as your clan, will adore it.
