Re: any ones dog have seizures??

I had a dog who had Seizures. But he had diabetes and when his bloodsugar was too low he would go into diabetic shock and have a seizure. He was on insulin twice a day every day.

I have know some people who's dogs have had seizures and they were put on fenabarbatol (sp?) and it did get better over time. But all dogs are different. The best thing to do when they are having a seizure is to just sit with them and pet them and just be calm. I use to also make sure my dog didn't swallow his tounge but it's very hard to get your finger in their mouths as they are seizing and i would not reccommend putting your finger in a dogs mouth while having a seizure. Hope this helps!

Re: any ones dog have seizures??

Buddy had seizures. He was on Phenobarb and other medications. Unfortunately he did not get better, we think he had a brain tumor.

We know a couple of dogs with seizures who have them once and never have them again. Or they have them every now and then and they do not need to be on medication.

If you have any questions please feel free to FM me

I had a Golden growing up who had epilepsy. She was put on medication. Once she was on the meds, it happened rarely

Our husky growing up had epilepsy and had seizures very randomly that lasted a few minutes and then that was that.

Bailey our golden had a few random seizures when he was older that they couldn't tell us why he was having them but believe it was related to his intestinal tumors.

oh if your dog goes on phenobarbital, ask the vet if you can get the prescription and fill it at a target or human pharmacy. Its so much cheaper than getting it at the vets office. I found http://www.diamondbackdrugs.com/ to be a great mail away place. The Emergency vet hospital told us about it and its super cheap.

Re: any ones dog have seizures??

thank you so much guys! as of right now, i'm going ahead and am gonna get the mri and a bunch of testing done. it's gonna run us $2800 but that dog is worth a million dollars to me. they don't know exactly what's going on. he only had a real seizure once but he's doing this other thing that i caught on video like once every other month and recently had 3 episodes in a month. so the vet is pretty worried. i of course am a hysterical mess. i can't even think, i can't function. i don't know what i'll do if i lose o'malley.

We used to have a poodle that had seizures, he wasn't on medication but apparently it's common for poodles. We used to just sit with him and hold him and wait it out, it was really sad to watch.

Re: any ones dog have seizures??

I have a Golden and he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy. I did a lot of research and joined a few Yahoo Groups to gain more information. Idiopathic Epilipsy is the kind that there is no known cause for the disorder. Which basically means it is genetic. There are other forms of Epilepsy.

My dog had one seizure and then didn't have another one till about 7 months later. When he did have the other one it was a lot worse than the first. The next morning he had another one so I took him to the vet. While in the vet's office he had another. They did all kinds of tests. He is now on Phenobarbytol. He takes it twice a day and has been since August and has not had a seizure since. I get the script at the Vet's office but I fill it at CVS and it costs $11.

FM me if you have any questions.
