any opinions on this, esp for the december mommies!!
So my dh has a strong feeling that our dd will be born on xmas eve or xmas day FOR SURE..(i think hes wrong, but what else is new lol) so we were thinking, being THAT close to Christmas we will never be able to give her the kinda birthday she deserves every year because everyone else will only give her either a christmas gift OR a bday gift..and it wont be fair to my ds for her to get double, and then when he have other kids, itll be like buying for an extra child for the holidays..which gets expensive.. plus i think all those toys at once are ALWAYS overwhelming, and they end up sitting in my ds's closet when that happens, still in the box..
SOOOOO.....
we have propsed a tradition, not sure yet though how we'll incorporate it.. IF she is born on Christmas, or Christmas eve, were gonna do Birthday in July (like Christmas in july) we will give her, her own seperate summer birthday to get presents, from us, from her family..and a birthday cake..
then on Christmas, we will have a cake, and a party for friends (the weekend before or after) and she will get stuff from them, but we will just buy her Christmas gifts...
I always love the idea of Christmas in July..so this will kinda be like that... is this stupid??

We are actually thinking about doing the exact same thing. Our baby is due on Christmas day and although I know we can still make his/her day special with a cake and special attention, I agree that birthday and christmas at once can be over-whelming and the child may not appreciate what they were given.

That is a lovely idea. My mom made a big deal out of my half birthday (in May) and it made me feel so special.

Re: any opinions on this, esp for the december mommies!!
DS is born Dec 20. We just had his birthday party this weekend with just immediate family, trust me no one combined…he got a ton of stuff. We will always do his birthday on/near his birthday but I make a special effort to make sure his birthday is not just thrown in the mix. Even though we just had a party at home I got lots of balloons and streamers etc to make the house feel like a birthday party even thought the holiday stuff is all around. But we do plan on doing a big bbq this summer (no gifts or anything) but the sole purpose is to get more extended family and friends together to see our little man who many haven’t seen since his christening.

We actually are thinking of doing the same thing. A lot of my family were born around the holidays and always felt jipped out of the "good birthday party".

I think its a great idea. I feel so bad for the children whos birthdays are soo close the holidays.. I feel they get so jipped present wise.

I'm not really concerned so much about "presents" because I know everyone in my family will be overly generous regardless. I just think of big theme birthday parties that I would want to do outside, that you can't do if your child is born in December ;).

I think its a good idea. My DDs birthday is on the 29th, we had a party with family for her after Christmas. It was all about her birthday and was perfect. That was last year, her first. This year I think she may get ripped off, since I am due the 31st. I know everyone will remember her birthday and she will get b-day gifts but I am nervous that I will be in the hospital. Her presents are wrapped and cards filled out just incase so we can celebrate in the hospital if need be with presents and a cake.

Re: any opinions on this, esp for the december mommies!!
its not so much about the lack of gifts really, as it is of the feeling of2 seperate special days..
we really go crazy for my ds bday in oct, we celebrate all week long, between his actual bday. dinner with my fam, dinner with my ex husbands family..my son gets a week long big deal made out of him..he gets so much stuff he still has things in wrapping paper by christmas~! Its just way too much to play with and way too much for a kid to appreciate fully..
her 6 month bday (if shes born on xmas eve) would be my dh's bday lol who thinks thats the coolest, BUT AGAIN i dont want her to "share" a day with someone else..be it my dh OR jesus lol
just something ive been thinkin bout..i think we'll find something to do to make it special..thanks for your opinions!!

I am scheduled to be an early January mommy and I actually said the same thing to my DH !....We have a nice big backyard with a huge in-ground pool that will never be able to be used for a kiddie b-day party ( my other DS is Oct), I said I would like to be able to have a pool party for him/her ...So I say , go for it !

Re: any opinions on this, esp for the december mommies!!
My DH and I thought of this when we first found out how close to Christmas we were due to have this baby...I think it is a nice idea, but I doubt I would follow through with it as the years progress. The closer I get to giving birth (if I ever give birth...) the more I like the idea of a Christmas Eve/Christmas Day birthday. My friend's father was born on Christmas and every year at midnight on Christmas Eve, they bring out a cake for him, sing happy birthday and give him birthday (not Christmas) gifts. It is a very special tradition for them.
