Any Ortho-Evra Patch Users
I just got this e-mail....
Hormones from patches applied to the skin get into the blood stream and are removed from the body differently than hormones from birth control pills taken by mouth. You will be exposed to about 60% more estrogen if you use ORTHO EVRA than if you use a typical birth control pill containing 35 micrograms of estrogen. In general, increased estrogen exposure may increase the risk of side effects. However, it is not known if there are differences in the risk of serious side effects based on the differences between ORTHO EVRA and a birth control pill containing 35 micrograms of estrogen. Talk to your healthcare provider about how this information relates to your use of ORTHO EVRA."

Recently the FDA disclosed that the excessive levels of estrogen delivered by the birth control patch Ortho Evra can cause serious injuries and even death to the women who use it. Johnson and Johnson is the parent company of the manufacturer of the Ortho Evra patch. The AP reported that patch users die and suffer blood clots at a three-times-higher rate than women taking the pill. The kinds of injuries that can occur include:
Blood Clots Pulmonary Embolism Heart Attacks Stroke Deep Vein Thrombosis Death

Re: Any Ortho-Evra Patch Users
i was on it for about a year, 3 years ago.
I switched off as soon as I heard about all the risks. I mean, there are risks with all BCP, but this was TOO risky, know what I mean?
