Any South Huntington/Melville people know why a police helicopter landed in the field behind the South Huntington library an hour ago?
I live right behind it and St. Anthony's H.S. I can't find anything about it.

There was a terrible accident on Pigeon Hill... I was driving home from the highway, and they were turning us around at the library. I did see two cars... the front end of one was crumpled in, and the other looked like it was off the road. I can't believe there is a helicopter.  It looked really scary.

Thank you. I thought it must be an accident. I heard so many sirens I thought they were going to drive down my block. Then I heard the helicopter and got worried. That turn into the library is difficult.

I heard the helicopter last night, had no idea what it was for though.  that everyone is ok.

There are always accidents on PHR. I can't believe they haven't tried to change it with all the accidents over the years there.

It was too dark to really see what kinds of cars they were, and I couldn't get close enough anyway... just enough to see how badly they were damaged. Ugh, I still have a pit in my stomach when I think of it.

It was a Suzuki motorcycle and a Chevy Sedan. The operator of the motorcycle was airlifted to Stony Brook Univ. Hospital. The accident occurred near the intersection of Pidgeon Hill Road and Greenhills Road, by the pre-school. The road is very curvy there.
