Any suggestions on how to help a gassy baby?
My poor DS! He is so gassy and miserable. It is really bad during the day, but seems to get better at night which seems odd to me. I have the gas relief drops and give him those before each feeding. I burp him, pump him, cradle him, walk him etc. and it all helps for a little while, but he has started having trouble finishing a meal because of it. Anyone have any suggestions of other things to try?

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. YOu can also try putting him on his belly, the pressure helps relieve gas as well.
I would talk to the peditrition and get him tested, because it is very possible that he has an allergy...especially if he is not finishing his meals and it's happening that quickly after/while eating.

Also you can try a different bottle. DH's cousin had really bad gas and I gave them some Dr. Brown's bottles and it went away instantly.

I've heard putting the mylicon drops in the bottle. Also, RTF formula is less gassy than powdered...

I agree
I agree this happened to my DD. She'd cry hysterically for an hour after each bottle. We found out at 5 weeks that she has a milk protein allergy. She became a new baby once we put her on the right formula Does he hve diarreah?
Hope your little one feels better soon!!!

My DD was gassy also. We started the Mylicon drops and changed her formula to Gentlease. When she was really suffering I did the bicycle legs with her and laid her across my legs on her belly.
I also heard chamomlie tea? Ask you doctor about that one.

Re: Any suggestions on how to help a gassy baby?
You are breasfeeding, right?
The belly thing works well. I put Logan on my hip with my arm against his belly and kind of walk and bob with him and it makes him feel better.
Are you eating a lot of garlic? I swear if I have so much as a sniff of garlic bread Logan is a ball of gas the next day.
The BF books suggest you write down what you eat and when he is most gassy and maybe you'll find a clue in your diet.
Hoping you both get some relief.

Also you can try lying him on his back, and pumping his legs up and down.

Yes, I am breastfeeding. DH does give him a bottle of breastmilk every few days though. We use the Dr. Brown's bottle and the platex drop in bottle. I do worry about my diet being an issue. I'm a vegetarian, so much of what I eat are considered "gassy" foods. I guess I'll keep a list and talk to my PED.
Thanks for all the advice ladies!!

MYLOCIN (sp?) drops! DS is not a gassy baby at all, but the few times he did have a gas bubble he couldnt get rid of, they worked like a charm. My dr. said .3 ml.

This is a good possibility. It is definetely healthy but also very gassy. It may be bothering him.

Re: Any suggestions on how to help a gassy baby?
My ds is the same way! I'm BFing too. I thought is was just me. I've checked my diet but no matter what he is gassy and gets hiccups sometimes during his feeding but always after his feeding.
We are going to the Ped on Monday. I'll let you know if they give me any other suggestions besides what we seem to be doing already and he suggestions of the girls on here too.

Re: Any suggestions on how to help a gassy baby?
I know one thing that helped with Maddie ( a very gassy baby) was to feed her in an upright position. As close to a 90 degree angle as you can get.
When do you burp him? If you burp him sooner (mid-feeding), you can get the gas to escape before it becomes intestinal gas.
Also I agree that diet plays a huge role in it.
