Any tax wiz's out there?? Need help filling out a form..
So, as many of you know-- I started a new job on Monday. The thing I think I hate the most about starting a new job-- is remembering how exactly I want to fill out my W4 and other documents of the like.
I confirmed my W4 to claim married and home ownership-- then they handed me another doc called an Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate (form IT-2104).
I tried doing the work sheet-- but, I have like no idea what I am doing. This stuff makes me feel incredibly stupid-- and I am totally lost.
Can anyone help?
TIA!

if you withhold zero they take the most out and you will probably get back. as you go up they take out less per pay check so you get less back at tax time.
My accountant told me that the person in the relationship that makes more $$ should claim the higher amount if you want more $$ per paycheck and the person who makes less to claim 0.
But I guess it all depends on if you want more $$ now or if you want a large return.

Re: Any tax wiz's out there?? Need help filling out a form..
thanks-- I typically claim 3 on the W4-- I am not sure what this is... In reading the doc a little more, it looks like I can do the same on this form.
I would like to be able to get more back per paycheck, and receive less or nothing as a tax return. I am just not sure exactly what thye credits are-- since there is no definition of the credits. I am not sure if they apply-- i.e. Real Property Tax credit-- I live/own in NJ, but I work in NY-- how does that effect withholdings, etc.
And then, what the hell is Earned Income credit-- I don't even know what that means!
So confusing..

I don't think i have ever had to fill all that out at a new job. I would think that you would do all that at tax time...
It is all so confusing.

I don't think you get an earned income credit- you need to be super poor for that.

Yeah- I just talked to HR and she said that... but, if you don't know what it is-- how can you know if you need to claim it? I hate the IRS.
Anyway-- i just did the same claims from my w4 and handed it off-- I just want to get on the payroll!!
