Any teachers concerned about APPR??
What is your district doing about it? How are they with informing you of what's ahead?

seriously?? it's the new evaluation system that that is a complete and total mess where we are being evaluated based on student test scores and crazy rubrics

To answer your question, our district is being very proactive at the high school level. Even though it doesn't officially go into effect until next year we have already adapted a new observation form to coincide with the new evaluation system. they are constantly giving us updates as they come, but even our administrators are confused since the sate has no ******* clue what they are doing.
i feel as good as i can feel about it in my district. i feel bad for the districts that are not doing anything ahead of time. i think they are in for a rude awakening next year when it really counts.

 I had to look up the acronym- I know all about the specifics but I haven't really heard it referred to as APPR- in my school we've just referred to it as "that new plan they will use to fire most of us." 
Right now, I am not concerned. It seems to be a huge mess and I don't see it being settled soon. I am planning to quit at the end of this school year, however, and the future with regards to test scores and evaluations is a small factor.

Does anyone know how this will work with Sped. teachers? I only have two standard assessment students (I am in D75). The rest are alternate assessment.
I haven't heard a concrete answer about how we will be evaluated in this new system. I guess maybe progress towards IEP and assessment goals, but even that is sketchy since we set the goals.

they have another acronym for the non-testing areas called SLO (student learning outcomes) and even my superintendent can't even understand the gibberish the state is sending down about it

My district has set up a committee, but nothing has been finalized. We need to vote on it as a union before anything is finalized.

It is a mess and it is crazy! RTI and now this. Our district is already looking into new observation evaluation forms. Our union is having meetings with us keeping us informed. The "black box" part of it interests me LOL. I just want to know HOW are they going to evaluate me in Phys Ed!? What are we going to measure body fat? LOL Fitness test scores? What? This is crazy!

Is this the Danielson evaluation?! Cause I'm almost feeling like I'm being harassed. Every day it's something new. I've been teaching for 10 years, and now I have to be evaluated on how the children respond to questioning and if they converse with their classmates without prompting.
I'm getting so frustrated... while the work ethic of my kids keeps getting more and more pathetic.

Yes it's the Danielson... it a complete cluster F if you ask me. Our district has been "updating" us on the progress, but they have NO answers for those of us who don't have "state exams" "regents" etc.
Like a PP said, it's another way to "fire us"...
What bothers me most is the evaluation that holds the students responsible for having that "ah-ha" moment without us directing them.

I don't think they've thought that far in advance. However, if you notice there is more and more talk that the special education population is going to be held to the same standards. I see it already in my school that the students with IEPs, when given state exams, their grades are considered with the general education population. It's not going to be pretty.
To make matters worse with this evaluation - I'm not tenure. I was excessed from my school on Long Island - and was fortunate enough to get hired in the DOE. Not only is my AP evaluating me with this new rubric - so is my principal. That's a total of 4 times PER benchmark. I've had enough. My principal thinks shse can use the rubric to evaluate the teachers, however, the union isn't allowing that due to the uncertaintly of the entire process.
Clluster F it is - at the expense of all involved.
Vent over - for now at least

The Danielson is only one of the rubrics that they are potentially using. Each district is looking into and adopting their own rubric. I personally am not to worried about it. We received a copy of it the other day (we are adopting Danielson). It seems like a lot of things that really are best practice - however, not everyone "does" best practice. I don't understand how they are going to evaluate us on 68 different components or however many in one 40 minute observation, but....thats for them to decide. I do know that their has to be evidence in the evalations though to prove why they are giving a certain rating and I will be audiotaping my own lessons during my evalations to play back since I do not trust my supervisor. That way, if she says I said/did not say something - The proof will be on the tape.
