any teachers....need help quick!
My Dr. told me that my last day of work will be Friday. I told my principal and she wants me to write a letter to my parents letting them know. I am going out 2 weeks earlier than expected. Where do I begin? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
TIA!

Re: any teachers....need help quick!
Really? My principal wrote the letter to the parents for me.
Anyway, you can tell them how you've enjoyed the time you've spent with the kids. But unfortunately you have to leave early (doctor's orders). If you know the teacher who will be replacing you, I would add her name and a little bit about her experience/education. Are you coming back this year or are you taking the time off? If you're coming back, let them know when you'll be back.
This is why the principal should really take care of this because she's the one that will be hiring the teacher to cover you. She should also include that if any parents have any questions about anything, they should direct them to her.
If you want....you could include an e-mail address to the parents if they have any questions or if the kids want to keep in touch with you. (I'd make up an alternate e-mail address like mail.com or hotmail.com) I did that when I left the school.

Re: any teachers....need help quick!
I'm a teacher, but HS, and I was had the baby the first day of school (!), so it wasn't an issue for me, but...
I guess you would start by saying "As you all know..." and then mention the baby. Without going into too much personal detail, tell them that you're leaving early (due to circumstances beyond my control, or something), I guess discuss the substitute. I'm assuming you're not going back before September, so I would thank everyone for the well wishes and support; tell them (the kids) to continue the good work that's always been expected of them and will continue to be expected. Tell them you'll miss them, etc...
This probably doesn't help at all!

thanks ladies! It does help! I am not coming back this year. I will be back in Sept. I know who my replacement is already and he is transitioning with me tomorrow and Friday. We have supt. conferences on Thursday so I only have 2 days left with the kids!
I didn't expect to go this early!

Re: any teachers....need help quick!
Kelly try leaving suddenly at 35 weeks. Ihad no time to write a letter at all. I wa able to go in and say goodbye to my kids. I was put on bed rest Jan 10th and I am having c-section Feb 15th. Now I have to go back May 1st because I only have 41 days in my bank.
I didnt not have to write a letter though. To bad for me though I cannot do my IEP's. I dont know what will happen with that.
The best of luck to you. Trust me on this you should enjoy these last few weeks to yourself. I am catching up on all me sleep now.

Re: any teachers....need help quick! UPDATED!
Thanks for all your help. This is what I came up with. Any thoughts?
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I have had a wonderful time being your child’s teacher. As you all know, my husband and I are expecting our first child at the end of the month. It has been my intention to teach until my due date. Unfortunately at a recent visit to my doctor, I was instructed to stay off my feet until the baby arrives. My doctor has advised this he feels that the baby will make his or her appearance before my expected due date. Both my husband and I are excited about the news and cannot wait until our bundle of joy arrives. My last day will be Friday, February 3, 2006.
I was looking forward to spending a few more weeks with your children. I have enjoyed watching them discover the wonderful academic and social experiences kindergarten provides. I am proud of each one of my students and marvel at their enthusiasm for learning and the growth they have made this year.
I am happy to hand over my class and classroom to Mr. Tom G. I have great confidence that he will provide an outstanding experience for your children academically and socially. The children already feel comfortable with Mr. G, which will ensure a smooth transition.
Thank you for your understanding. I wish you all a very happy and successful remainder of the school year. It has been a pleasure working with you.
Sincerely,
Lora S....

Very nice! I would say hand over my students and classroom...not class & classroom.
Sorry...just being a "teacher"...
