Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
I know it sounds so cheesy, but for senior family members, it's a smart idea but I know nobody who has it.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
My grandma and my aunt have it. It has saved my aunts life after a couple of falls when she could not get to the phone and it has allowed to live independently. Very very worthwhile investment

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
Can you tell me about the costs and stuff since I see nothing about it on the website?
Also, is it Life Alert or are there other companies that you use?
Thank you!

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
My dad has something similar.
It's exactly the same but provided by another company local to LI.
Since he's expressive aphasic and physically disabled they know to phrase all questions as yes/no or multiple choice so he can answer them.
He's never needed it but they ask you to test the system monthly.
It is strange the first time the voice comes over the speaker... it really blares through the house.. very big brother-ish. Scared the be-jesus out of me the first time!

If anyone could FM me the pricing info. for this I would really be appreciative--my Mom has MS and took a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
My parents insisted that my grandfather get it when he was alive and living alone in Florida.

My grandparents have "LifeLine". I don't know the pricing on it...but when my grandmother was alive she used it and it was wonderful.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
My grandmother had it before she moved into a nursing home. She fell and broke her hip around 9:30am one day, if she didn't have it she would have been lying there on the floor until 6pm when my uncle would check on her after work.
DH's grandparents also have a system like it. They are in their 90's and live in an apartment in Florida. Luckily they haven't needed it yet.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
My grandmother has it. Like everyone has said, its good piece of mind. She complained about it at first, but now I think she is used to it. She lives alone and I think its really good for her to have.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
DH's grandmother has one and apparently refuses to use it
It's a great idea if the person is going to use it. They send an ambulance if the button is pressed and there is no response and there is a key kept outside with a special code that the LifeAlert people give to the ambulance driver when he gets there.

Re: Anybody get Life Alert for a family member?
my MIL has one and it works really well. one day she was trying to open a jar of pickles and was pressing it up against her chest to get a better grip. she accidently pressed the button and before you knew it phone calls were coming from all over to make sure she was o.k. it costs about $30 per month and offers peace of mind especially when she is alone.
