DH and I just bought 1,000 shares of Sirius stock. We bought it at 7 dollars a share and it ended today at 7.30 a share. We figure that when Howard Stern goes to satellite radio, we'll see an increase in our stock.
XM radio stock started out the same way and is now at 30 dollars a share.

We were thinking of buying Sirius now also. The whole investing thing is still kind of scary to me.

We went to Fidelity Investments in Garden City and signed up there. You do all the work on your computer at home. They give you a step by step info sheet and a phone # to call in case you need assistance. You can have them help you, but they will charge you.

We bought some last year when it was $6.50/share. At least we have made some money so far-lol!

I haven't really been watching the market too much lately but I will also vouch for Sirius, we bought it last year at $3.81. I think it can only go up from here, they seem to be selling like hot cakes this holiday season.
I also heard a *rumor* that they *might* merge with XM. Total rumor though.

Actually this was the stock we were interested in.

The problem with Sirius is that it will take a lot longer for them to get into the black than they anticipate. They have spent a lot of cash to get the talent they did.... they need to get a lot of subscribers to get profitable. Add those costs to the millions of dollars they've spent from 1997 onwards just to get their 3 satelites in the air- and they have a LOT of debt.
I wouldn't be surprised if their stock falls after New Year if the sales for Xmas were lower than anticipated.

I went to my DH with the idea about buying Sirius and he sort of made a face. He's an economist and while it's SO not an exact science, I think I am going to trust him on this one.

I think the problem with any stock you hear people buying, is just that - a lot of people are buying them and the price goes up for a while, then the stock is oversaturated.
I bought some Krispy Kreme stock a long time ago b/c I liked the taste of them so much. So I'm no expert that's for sure!

DH follows satellie radio for work. He said that if you believe in Sirrus and can invest for the long haul (at least a year if not more) it's something to consider. But now is not the time to get in for a quick profit, it most likely will not "pop" when Howard starts broadcasting, historically stocks "pop" when news is released, so we probably already saw the big Howard upswing. But hopefully they are working on other big deals that will affect the stock price in the future.
ETA: He just told me that I should also say that if they get more subscribers by year end than they are currently projecting you should see an uptick in the stock price.

My boss and co-workers did well last year as they bought at $3 and $4/share and sold at $9. They bought alot though.

DH bough 50 shares of Google at $102/share. At today's close I think it was $409/share. I wasn't really thrilled about him doing so, especially with the wedding expenses, etc. But I'll never doubt him again.
