Anybody using SB Midwives get "transferred" to high risk OBGYN?
I've had occasional palpitations since I was a teenager. Drs said they were benign. When I got pregnant they wanted me to see a pregnancy cardiologist to make sure. A million tests later, all came out OK and they are 99% sure it's benign. There is only one rare condition that might be causing them that is not benign but the tests to rule it out are too invasive to do while I'm pregnant. I have only had a couple of flutters this pregnancy so they think everything is OK. Great. Cardiologist tells us that she thinks I can continue to see the Midwives and have a vaginal delivery. Wonderful.
I have my regular Midwife appt. today and they say that they are "transferring" me to the high risk doctors based on the cardiologist's recommendation from the same appt. where she told us I could continue to see the Midwives.
They didn't have the cardiologist's report in my chart today so they are having me meet with the high risk Dr. next week and with the Midwives again the following week.
So what does it mean to have me "transferred" to the high risk doctors? I really would like to continue to see the Midwives. Does this mean that now in my 3rd trimester I have to start seeing a new group of doctors? Anybody go through this?
You know, I have been very lucky to feel really good pretty much the whole pregnancy, everything has been great with the baby, all the 9 million tests they are putting me through have all come out OK but these tests and doctor visits are really starting to stress me out.

I sympathize with you. I also have been in a situation where I want a midwife, but because of certain possible medical conditions, I can't have one and need to use a doctor.
I would ask the midwives what exactly they mean when they say they are transferring you. You could possibly be seeing a high risk doctor in addition to the midwives and the high risk doc will monitor your condition while the midwives will continue to be your primary providers with pregnancy. Or maybe the midwives are not comfortable seeing someone with a possible medical condition and they would like you to see a doctor. Or maybe they want the high risk doctor to make the call as to whether you need a doctor or can continue with the midwives. I would check with the midwives.
Good luck and keep us posted.
