anybody's baby's head on the small size?
When dd was born, her head circumference was in the 30th percentile. At her 6 week check up she was in the 50th%. I can't believe because I come from a family with big heads. My DH has a tiny head, I guess. I'm just a little concerned because her head looks flat to me in the back. I'm afraid she'll be below average at our next appointment, which is Friday.

If it helps....my DD head is always percentile in the 10th.
If its a concern....talk to your ped.

Well I guess I'll see what the ped. says. So your ped. wasn't concerned that her head is below average? She's beautiful by the way!

DD was in the 40th percentile when she was born & then at her 2 month ck up went up to 50th & at her 4 month she was at the 75th%. My ped said they worry more if the head is too big b/c it may mean there is swelling inside, etc.

My DD's head circumference is 25th % and has always been. There is no need for concern that it is "below average" By definition, half of babies are below average!!! As long as there is no unusual pattern (getting really huge all of a sudden, or not growing at all) and it is in the range of normal (5-95th %) it is normal.

Re: anybody's baby's head on the small size?
Hi!... My DD, who is 9 weeks old, also has a small head... in the 10 percentile.. Doc said that as long as it increases at each visit, it is not a problem... I worried too, but when I did some reading on it, there was nothing to be concerned about... ETA.. she is 95 percentile weight and 75 percentile height.... And I think she is just beautiful!

Both my son's were/are 25%ile for head but 90%ile plus for height and length. Yet even the dr would say their heads don't look small - they both have/had big huge cheeks.
It is no need for concern - you want to be on the chart and you don't want huge variations from month to month.

I agree. Although I was on the opposite end. Both my kids had heads that were above 95%

I think DD is 25% but I can never find a hat that fits her!
