Anyone a Brownie leader or GS leader...what is the commitment really like?
I have asked a couple of my friends and got their opinions but I am looking for some more. I would really like to get an idea of what the commitment is before I agree to take on the responsibility.

It depends. I am one of three leaders of a Daisy troop of 8. We meet every other week. At the beginning, the other two leaders and I would meet the day before to run through what we were going to do, now we just chat or email.
I don't find it too time consuming. The leader who handles the money has the most work. She's also the cookie mom- so if you do it, get another mom to commit to being the cookie mom way in advance. I'm in charge of communicating with the moms and getting RSVPs for events- our unit does a TON of events, that's the most time consuming part for me but it's also the most enjoyable.

If you are starting a brand-new troop there is a lot of paperwork. Once you pass that hurdle, it is easy and a lot of fun.
I have a K-Daisy troop with 8 girls. We meet every other week and have events about once a month. We started the same time the cookie sale started so I was also the cookie mom, and honestly, with a troop that small is wasn't bad at all.
We do have a meeting on Wednesday so my goal for tonight is to find a nice Mother's Day craft to tackle.

I'm a new Daisy leader this year. We have 12 girls in our troop & I have a co-leader. Decide ahead of time who will take care of what; we sort of split things up as we went: she handles all banking; most of the council paperwork & I handle the actual meetings (what the girls do; what petals we work on) & I was doing the trip approval forms & such.
We asked at our parent meeting for a cookie mom & she was great. My co-leader handled the nut sale, but said she'd get a parent to help w/ that next year as well.
Not sure what county you are in, but I know in Suffolk you have to complete a set amount of training (for general GS orientation & then for the specific level you are leading) & also the first aid/CPR training.
We also had a parent sign up for snack mom for e/ meeting (we meet every other week) & they helped us w/ bathroom runs & such.
If you do decide to do it get w/ your meeting location ASAP for meeting day/times for next year. We didn't do that until first week in Sept. & we some months were only able to have 1 mtg. due to no room availability.
ETA in our service unit leaders have to go to a monthly leader meeting (ours is at Panera); but you OR your co-leader can go.
